By moving your wrist rapidly toward and away from you while stopping a note, you produce an expressive singing effect. It causes a slight undulation in pitch. Others here will probably make a better job of describing it!

It might be an idea to ask your teacher for a demo or if you can borrow a DVD of a soloist, you would see and hear what happens.
