hiya eveyone. I know i have asked questions similar to this but i am having real trouble coming up with my own DRAMATIC music on piano. I can come up with dramatic and fantastic tunes in my head and i can 'sing' them, but as soon as i go down to the piano, it sounds like twinkle twinkle backwards or something.
Any techniques that any of u's use to get ideas going??? I want to try and create some dramatic music please.
And thanks to everyone (especially to chocolate dog) for replying to my last post about improvistaion.

Hi smile.gif

OK, in order to compose, you gotta ask yourself:

What instrument/s are you composing for?
What style do you want to compose in e.g if it's classical, then maybe listen to some symphonies, and try working through the different chords- dominant and diminished 7th chords are learnt in practical exams because they are use often in classical music. If it's romantic, consider looking at compositions by romantic composers like Chopin or Liszt, and notice how they put lots of their emotions into their music. If it's contempory, I'm not too sure about what to do here, but I guess it's the imagination that counts... eh? wink.gif

Well, I hope I've helped in some way... smile.gif

Agree with hyperchik.

Spend some time analysing pieces of the kind you're interested in. There's no quick way unless you're intuitive which usually means a bit of experience. It'll come but not overnight.............unless you're Beethoven etc.
