Hi. I got my Grade 5 theory exam, today @ 2pm. Any words of wisdom for what to look out for, or anything that may gain me 1 more mark.

at 2pm?? I've got mine at 10am...are you in a different time zone to UK otherwise I could give you loads of words of wisdom....like what the questions are!!!! unsure.gif

Seriously, I think the simplest and best advice is to carefully read the questions and carefully check your answers. Its easy when stressed to mix alto and tenor clefs, and miss tied accidentals etc.

Good Luck!!!

My teacher told me that everyone took their theory exams at exactly the same time all around the world so there's no possibility of cheating - guess she was wrong!!

Good luck with your exam, tell us how you got on when it's all over smile.gif

The only words of wisdom I could give you would be: do all the questions you feel most confident on first so that you can spend as much time as possible on the harder ones (e.g. leave composition until the end as I find that takes the most time to complete). Finally, don't panic and try your best!!!

make sure you know your cadences. When I did mine, I only worked out i did the cadences wrong in teh last 5 minutes and that was the difference between me failing and getting a merit. Scary . . .

I guess that it is a different exam to the ABRSM one then.

Yes, I expect we will know by the end of July-ish

Can't you read and learn italian terms without someone telling you then?
PianoEmma
I didn't know the term either- I know Adaigo meant slow and the other one expressive but what did the other one mean- Sostenuto? Or something like that! I guessed It means sustained i think but I put sad! Theres so many of them to revise and on the exam they only put 1 maybe 2!
noodle
Sostenuto means sustained.

I don't think teh exam board would issue the same paper if they were at different times.
