I've been inspired by the recent BBC programmes to take up playing Beethoven again after a long lapse.

I've been playing through some of Beethovens earlier sonatas and wonder if any of you experienced pianists out there know if there is a "list" of Beethoven's piano sonatas in order of difficulty from easy to hard.
I appreciate this isn't an exact science as some of the sonatas have easy movements and some killers!!
eg easy 1st and 2nd of the Moonlight, 3rd Movt........aarghh!!!!

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Strangely enough, I had a look at Tempest earlier for the same reason; I was having time off from Beethoven after playing the Pathétique for a few years....

As for classification of sonatas, it depends how easy to how hard you want - the Diploma syllabus has a number of sonatas on each of the DipABRSM, LRSM and FRSM repertoire lists.

Actually, I found this discussion on another board using google, looks like just what you need. Of course, I don't know who's saying it and whether they're right, but having a quick glance down the lists they seem about right.

Thanks for your help

I've had a look at the DipABRSM lists too...might start with them and see how I go.
