I'd like to learn the oboe... it has a really gorgeous sound all the time it seems... or maybe I never heard a bad oboeist.... But sometimes on the flute it can sound kind of 'airy' and the sound isn't as full kind of... I just like the sound of Oboe... I'm not going to get one though

I don't think my parents will understand if I start another instrument straight after taking up the harp... I'm still in love with harp though!

It's funny itsn't it. As a child everyone said I would make a good pianist because I have long fingers!

But I learned to play the recorder (descant, treble and tenor), then the flute, then the oboe, and now I am having singing lessons.
But I'd still really love to play the piano.
One day...

You all make me feel quite the odd one out. Talking about the beautiful sound of the oboe etc, I agree, but still, I've always wanted to play the drums simply so I could make a huge racket etc etc!
Maybe it's to do with being a flautist, you can't get really loud on a flute, or if you can, please let me know how!

Little Anna: I'm very new to harps so please correct me if I'm wrong andyone. They are rather expensive instruments. I'm renting one at the moment. It's worth around £7000 pounds but it's not even a full sized one and the strings are always breaking so obv. you have to keep forking out for new ones. The one I'm renting is a pilgrim harps which I believe is quite a good type. I've hears a full sized concert harp can cost up to £52,000 pounds but I don't think I'll be getting one of those. Anyway, I hope I've answered your question just ask if you want to know anything else.

I would have loved to play the oboe, cello or harp! They all have such beautiful sounds. Apparently the oboe is one of the hardest instruments to play. Oboe players, is this true?

When I was in year 3 i wanted to play the cello but my teacher said that you needed big hands! Cello players, is this true?

Hi Ping-lee,
I am 11 years old, and I play the piano and cello.
The cello is a very beautiful instrument, and it makes a very nice sound when played well. I have quite small hands, and it is very easy to play the cello. My teacher says I am one of the "better" students, so I assume that I am doing everything right! You don't necessarily need to have "big" hands, you could play it just as well with small hands. As a celloist, I have to say that it really doesn't matter what size your hands are, my piano teacher starts celloists going at age 5! Just tell your teacher (if you really want to play the cello) that you are really motivated to play the cello and that you don't really think that the size of your hands matters.
Good luck to you Ping-lee,

Yes, it is possible to get a load sound out of a flute. If you find a quite high note and put plenty of air behind it the result is spectacular. a D with two ledger lines is a good one.

I know this from a while ago but I just thought I would reply anyway! sorry.
Hi ping-lee! I play the oboe and the cello!

Everyone says the oboe is one of the hardest instruments to play but I never found that. That was probably because it was the first instrument apart from recorders that I played. It is quite hard work to begin with and you get out of breath quickly but it gets easier after a while.
You don't need particuarly big hands to play the cello, I have little hands and I do but it might be a bit easier. I don't really know

I suppose it has something to do with the size of the instrument. When you say the word cello, people automatically conjure up an image of a full size cello with a orcheatra cello-ist (is that what you call a cello player? Correct me, someone. It's 2am and my brain isn't functioning well

) Cuz I mean, if you've small hands, you could always use a smaller sized cello. Loads of people want to learn the cello! I know one friend who does but she can't because cellos are expensive, she doesn't have enough time and her house has no space for one.
I always wanted to learn flute. It's so sweet sounding. I play the piano and violin. Violin is so darn hard to learn in the beginning and I'm still in the beginning. Hopefully it wears off. It still makes me ticked off now when my stickers get non sticky and start running all over the fingerboard. Irritates me to death. I can't play flutes and many wind instruments for some reason (except recorder). I think I don't have enough breath or something. When I blew downwards into the hole in the flute(dunno what you call it) in secondary school...there was no sound!

At a Chinese exhibition at a shopping mall, I tried blowing into one of the instruments...there's like a gourd in the middle of it, the sound was weird. I produced a low note. My dad blew into it and out came a high note. The guy in charge of the booth started playing for me, and it was all high notes!
And I agree with hellokitty that the flute's much easier to carry around! Pianos can't be carried around

, they've gotta be truck-transported heeh.

If I was going to choose a new instrument, double bass.

I really like them.
Ultimately, I'd just like to be able to play piano better.
