Any band Clarinettist, lets talk! smile.gif

Hi Kenny

I play the clarinet in one of the most successful wind bands in the UK. I love bands, better than orchestras. Only two bands in the last three years have won gold awards at the national festival, us being one, which are given on individual performance, not comparison to others, so a gold in the open class is almost professional standard.

Wish you well

Follow the web link in my profile. It's being updated (about time too). Sadly I might not be there next year. sad.gif

I'm a band clarinettist! I'm not in a famous band or anything, though. I just play in my school Symphonic Band. I'm first chair, yay biggrin.gif (not like there's too much stiff competition in a high school of 200 students, out of which only 10 or so are clarinet players.... LOL! I still feel good though! tongue.gif )

Our band director for 3 years was really into marches and music that really stunned the audience. He also had a soft spot for slow, very expressive pieces, but we hardly ever played any of those. In our last concert, we performed:

Freedom City (a King march)
Trumpeter's Lullaby (one of our trumpet players was a senior and leaving this year, but he was incredibly talented so we did this one for him - he had the solo)
Old Scottish Melody - arrnaged by Wiley I think
Rikudim (LOVED this! Especially the last movement! Tons of fun semiquavers!)

So that gives you an idea of what kind of music he liked us to play. However, he's left for Korea now, so I don't know what our next band director will be like...

Oh we did Old Scottish Melody at school. Brilliant. Our current band have been exploring the new Eric Whitacre series. But nothing beats Nigel Hess.

I'm in a band! NSYCB. Great fun, except when Greeny is nasty to me, which he can be quite a lot.

I was in CYCB but it was our last ever practice and I'm leaving for uni! sad.gif I'm in Border concert band which mainly do old stuff coz that's what the average age is. Although in an attempt to get more young people to go we have been doing some film stuff. I also play in the school band, but we're not very wonderful!

I'm a band clarinettist. I play in my old high school's concert band. O.k, so it's not famous, but we have toured Holland and Germany... lol

i USED to be a band clarinetist, since 12, ive played clarinet, bass clarinet, flute, piccolo and bassoon in bands
Year 7 - Clarinet
Year 8 - Bass Clarinet
Year 9 - Bass Clarinet then Clarinet
Year 10 - Flute
Year 11 - Bassoon then Flute then Bassoon then Flute/Piccolo

i loved being a clarinetist in band since i was one of the best and always had first clarinet, but because theres such a surplus of them and im now one of only 3 flute players and the only piccolo player im needed on flute more but still love it, bassoon on the other hand was awful, i only ever did 2 concerts and nearly died at the end of them both blink.gif
