Well done Fiona!
I remember when I passed my Grade 4 and got my certificate... it said "Intermediate Level" or something and it made me feel so proud.
I'll be sitting my Grade 6 sometime next term or in the spring.

Congrats!
I'm... um... grade 3 plus ish?
I did grade 3 years ago then gave up, took up lessons again a year and a bit ago. I can now play grade 3 pieces much better, more musically and with less effort than I did then.

Haaaang on... no way.

After grade 8 there's Associate (AmusA) and then Licentiate (LmusA), then after that you can get about a bazillion diplomas. o_o
That's if you do AMEB.

That's a good philosophy. Better an excellent grade 5/6 than an uneasy grade 8. As long as you are still meeting challenges you set. Will you be doing 7 or 8 next?

I am taking my grade eight exam this spring in piano. Also, I am considering taking grade five in voice and violin next fall, but it all depends on scheduling and my teacher's opinions.

haha. I'd just finished my DipAbrsm in early may 05 and had gotten the certificate. now i'm still thinking of whether to switch to LTCL or continue learning LRSM..
hey..do anybody know how to overcome problems relating to small hands? i've huge problems playing LRSM and LTCL pieces and my chords aren't clear and accurate at all when playing! they're noises man..! intolerable to my ears...my hands can merely reach an octave..and i've a very tough time playing..

I'm supposed to be doing Grade 8 in November. I've learnt my pieces and all the scales, arpeggios (chromatic scales in minor thirds legato anyone? yuk!)
However, there's a problem. The piano where I took my Grade 6 (I got Merit about two years ago - decided not to do G7 as have young family and my ambition is to get G8) is an absolute heap of firewood. Terrible thing - lousy action, sticky keys, you name it. Apparently my teacher volunteered her piano (she has a wonderful Steinway B and a Steinway D) but was turned down because there was no car parking! I ask you - how stupid is that? Anyway, she's trying to get me entered at a local school where they have a superb piano, but they don't generally take external students. So, if they turn me down, I don't know what I'm going to do. When do the current G8 pieces "expire"? I DEFINITELY don't want to have to learn three more!

Don't worry about the lifetime of the pieces. You have another 18 months before you have to change.
Sorry to hear about the difficulties with finding a venue. Hope you get sorted out soon.

I passed Grade 6 in 1996 when I was 18, and although I've continued to improve, I'm not sure that I could pass Grade 7. I enjoy playing the pieces for fun though, and I accompany my clarinet and sax students until they reach about Grade 4/5 (depending on the pieces they pick and whether I can manage them!) I think some of this year's piano exam pieces are fab, especially in Grade 4 and 5. I'm addicted to New Orleans Nightfall!

Hovering somewhere around grade 8. I haven't taken an exam since i was about 13 (grade 6 violin) which was 9 years ago, so i'm not really in a position to judge myself.

I don't do ABRSM (haha, what am I doing here?

). ABRSM isn't as well known down here in Australia. My exams are run by the
AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board), and I am doing my AMusA, also called Associate, or the first diploma level.

Oh...I heard from my friend in Aus. that it's very difficult...AMEB grade6=ABRSM grade8 !?
Yay another fellow Aussie! Lol. Im going to do a grade 8 AMEB leisure exam after uni exams. AMEB(our examinations board) introduced Leisure exams, so rather than all classical pieces, they have a range of styles to choose from- classical, jazz, pop, rock etc etc.
