My pegs wont turn >_<

OK, not a major problem, it is caused by high humidity.

The solution is very simple: you need a hairdryer. Turn the hairdryer on full heat and heat the pegs, you need to get close to the pegs so they really get quite warm.

Then put the violin down and leave it for at least a couple of hours. Repeat if necessary. The most I have ever had to do it is four times.

if you find this happening a lot then get some peg compound which will help.

If it's a really hot and powerful hairdryer, be careful you don't singe the wood!! I knew someone who did this and ended up leaving nasty blackish/brown burn marks on the varnish of the pegbox.

Oh it worked. Thanks XD

Hi Vue,

I find it helps to put some peg compound on the pegs every time I change a string smile.gif

I have quite the opposite problem! My teacher had just changed my strings for me since my violin exam is in three weeks. Now the pegs keep coming loose and I have to practically tune my violin after almost every scale mad.gif
I try to push the pegs in a little more, but then I am scared they'll get stuck, so I only push them in a little.
Any suggestions?

Are you sure it's the pegs coming loose and not just the strings settling?

How does a string 'settle'?? huh.gif I believe it is the pegs though because the string is looser when I turn the peg than it previously was. And it can go like two whole tones lower than when I last tuned it all after like a day or two. laugh.gif You can imagine my shock when I play my scales when the notes on say, 'D' string turn out like F E D C all of a sudden! wink.gif laugh.gif

Ann, what brand of strings are we talking about here? It really does sound like a simple matter of the strings stretching - assuming I have understood correctly.

Well, I really don't know. Paramount I think. My teacher it wasn't a very good brand. Worse than Pirastro and Dominant for sure, according to her! blink.gif But I like the ring it gives after changing. Just that they keep changing tune laugh.gif
