I don't think thst there is an easy way unsure.gif
I did those grades recently (gr 8 last year) as an adult.
I really think that you need a good teacher ( not always easy as a lot of instrument teachers seem to only teach theory to gr5 even if they teach higher levels on practical).
The stuff in those books barely coners half of what you really need to know to do well. sad.gif

Hi Dev, there are grade work books for the higher grades (6-8) and also try looking at past specimen papers for the exams. I think the higher grades are only necessary if you intend to take one of the Boards Diplomas.

I did grades 6-8 just because I wanted to learn that stuff tongue.gif
No other motive.

what books did you use Shbo for your grade 6-8 or did you just use a good teacher. I have just sat grade 5 last week and am thinking of going on to grade 6 just for the fun of it but it is quite a jump. blink.gif

When I got gr5 I had 98% cool.gif
I looked at gr 6 papers and didn't even understand the questions blink.gif
Yes, it is a big jump.... I had a really good teacher. We used the workbooks for 6-8, the pink and blue abrsm theory books (but not much), also looked at extracts from scores to help with identifying things like harmony and period.
I thought I'd never get there sometimes but it was worth the effort in the end, I got distinction on all 3 grades biggrin.gif
If you want to do it the I say go for it!! But I think it would be very difficult without a good teacher.

One book that is useful is called 'Score, Reading, Form and History' by Annie O. Warburton [published by Longman].
Another is called 'First Year Harmony' by William Lovelock, published by William Elkin Music Services. There are also second and third year harmony books too.

Hm...seriously, those books are good enough to secure a pass. Try doing past year papers. THat should give you a feel as to the standard of the examination. However, it should be noted that Grade 5 to Grade 6 IS a big jump. GOod luck!
