Hi guys,

I have a buffet B12 plastic clary, which I do love but have never learned to play properly (and probably will never have time/money to have lessons on) plus I'm a flautist and so I don't want to get serious on the clarinet and mess up my flute embouchure!

Does anyone have any idea how much it's likely worth second hand? I've had it for approx 8 years, but it hasn't been played a great deal and has been very well looked after. Some of the pads sound a little sticky (could use them being cleaned) but all the keywork etc works just fine and being a plastic one it's a hard-wearing beastie.

Anyway I'm trying to decide whether it's worth selling it especially as I am pretty skint at the moment and could use a little cash. I'll be sad to let it go, but it seems a shame it's sitting around collecting dust...

I don't know if the numbering system has changed at all in the past 8 years, does anyone know whether my B12 is the same as what is now called a B12? It cos me £260 ish new I *think*. & is there anything I can/should do which isn't too expensive or time-consuming before I try to sell it?

Sarah,

The B12 is a standard student model used by thousands of people in the USA and Europe. For this reason, there's an absolute glut of these (and most clarinets) on Ebay. Many people like me buy from the USA because it's cheaper, so think very carefully before using Ebay. You could be very disappointed!

I'd suggest advertising it locally for approx 100 pounds ono. Make sure it's cleaned and the keys shiny. Oh, the case too.

As for sticky pads, it's more likely to be sticky tone holes so try cleaning them just where the pads lie. This often helps a lot, especially the register key.

*nods* OK.

Yeah, I wasn't going to try ebay. Most likely is to just sell it to someone who's looking to buy one - I have a friend who teaches clarinet, hoping one of his beginners might want it wink.gif - and just curious to know what it would be worth in very good condition.

That's useful to know about the tone holes, I'll try cleaning the holes.
