Can I take water into an audition with me?
Also, what would be best to stop a) my hands/lips getting sweating and cool.gif getting a dry mouth?
Thanks
Hulk
I took water into auditions in the past, I think it's acceptable nearly everywhere, especially in this hot weather.

Just make sure you drink enough water to keep your body hydrated.

I agree. Don't go dehydrated!! huh.gif

We see people taking water on stage at concerts everywhere and I usually take water into an exam. In my exam last year I had a drink after every piece and they just waited. It's really no problem.

I keep seeing this "Cool in a can" spray advertised - maybe you could give it a try to keep cool?

What is it?
Fred
Apparently you can get it at Boots. Look here for details of the product. I haven't tried it myself - just seen the ads.

I always take water into my exams (and to the audition I had), makes it hard to play the flute if I have a dry mouth!

Water should be fine. Surely your audition panel would rather you stop for a drink than try to play with a dry mouth and your tone suffer as a consequence.

I know it sounds a little weird, but I was told by my teacher to stick a stamp or sticker onto the lip plate of the flute to stop it slipping if your lips get warm. I prefer a normal sticker cos it's easier to take off but it does look a little odd so only use it if you have to! Still, its better than your flute missing your mouth!! tongue.gif

Yes, of course you can take a small bottle of water with you into any performing situation if you think you might need it and, with this hot weather, you probably will.

I had all my pupils take a small towel (or face flannel) into their exams this summer to wipe their hands - much better than sweating heavily and not having sufficient grip to hold the instrument properly.

Use a spray deodorant on your hands to stop them from sweating! I have used it in my piano exams as I was worried my fingers would slip off the keys but the deodorant really stopped that from happening.

I've done that before - I forget why - but it feels reeeeeeeeeeally weird.

Quite weird because I was so clam in the audition, apart from my shaking body!
Hulk
Glad to hear it!

What was the audition for?

I would 'clam' up too, in your situation. tongue.gif biggrin.gif
