Hey there! Just wondering if any one has any ideas for a suitable slow tempo piece of music, approx 4/5 mins in length to add to a short recital programme? Im doing Carmen Fantasy, a comedy piccolo piece and no doubt a bit of Bach but need something contrasting. Dont mind the period!

Poulenc is gorgeous, especially the 2nd movement.

3 pieces by Pierre Ferroud - mentioned them in a previous post. One of them must suit and for only £5:90 from June Emerson! smile.gif

Ta-all good ideas so far! Although I think i did the Poulenc (which is indeed awesome) at the same recital last year....Nope did the Bozza Aria too..or did I? Maybe it was another Bozza piece. Gaubert Madrigal eh?? Might have a gander at that piece! biggrin.gif
Keep going people!!

The Barber Canzone? The Gaubert is lovely.

York Bowen is really nice and not that hard if you don't have much time. Romance is nice also.

York Bowen eh? I was thinking of the Rhene-Baton which I did for my diploma years ago, dont think it was too difficult.... will have to dig it out again. Hmmmm it would be nice to learn something new mind! thanks for all the ideas folks. biggrin.gif

Thats a nice one - did the 'other' Faure last time, so this would give me a breather in between silly fast pieces!

Id definetly recommend Poulenc or York Bowen. Or the 2nd movement of the Mozart in G is lovely too! and also not too difficult!

I've just accompanied someone playing the York Bowen and very much enjoyed it, but it does get quite impassioned in the middle. I wouldn't recommend the Mozart because it wasn't written for flute and piano. If you don't already known Richard Rodney Bennett's Siesta (the middle one of three musically related movement, collectively titled Summer Music) which several of us have been enthusing about on another thread do have a look. In my experience audiences love it, and it can be a real "oasis" in an otherwise "busy" programme. You could use Siesta as a "taster" and play the whole set next time. smile.gif

Best of luck. Let us know what you choose.

Ooh I think I have that summer music lying about somewhere - I will def have a look! And when I FINALLY decide on the programme then i will post it! Had first play of flute in AGES today - hmmmm a bit too rusty to attempt the Carmen Fantasy so fast!! And debating whether to REALLY include an arrangement of Queen of Sheba - otherwise it really will become a veritable CHEESE fest!

Ooooh yeah! Siesta is lovely!

What is the recital for?
flutey toot
Its just a regular half hour recital I do every summer - part of a lunch time concert series. The problem this year is I have had to take a pretty big break from playing as I have been snowed under with PGCE work and have kinda lost touch with the flute a bit. Need to get back on top of things. sad.gif

PS I found that Summer Music - will have a go later on today! Ta!

Had a play through of the summer Music - seems nice enough! Will have a run through with pianist asap - and i agree i think it will be a nice calming breather in between 'finger' pieces! Thanks guys for ideas! laugh.gif
