Bad mistake from Cech...

Still, it's all set for a penalty shoot-out, which is what the Czechs are good at!

EDIT: 3-2 to Turkey now ohmy.gif

Im surpised so many people are inteerestd in the Euros, with no 'home' country taking part. And the amount of TV time Euros are giotting is indecent. Its not I dont like football, Id certainly be watching England, but I cnan't get excited about these Euro Championships.

Don't think there's a lot in it between Spain and Italy - I know Italy finished second in their group, but they are world champions!

Should be a good game. smile.gif

Spain won on penalties after a 0-0 draw.

Wasn't a good game wink.gif

I'm not great on Scottish geography, but Annan and the recently demised Gretna are not that far apart geographically, are they?

Yes, you're right; about 8 miles apart from each other. Being brought up in Annan, as a youngster I don't think I even realised that Gretna had a 'proper' football team! blush.gif
However, I think Gretna's achievements over the past few years have been tremendous, especially given that Gretna's population is (I think) only around two or three thousand.
They got a lot of stick from Scotland's football community last season; people reckoned that Gretna contributed nothing to the SPL in terms of their small fan-base amongst other things; critiscism which I felt was a bit harsh as they got there on merit.
It's sad how things ended up as, on their day, Gretna could compete with the best...in Scotland, that is!! tongue.gif
Hopefully Annan will survive ok and, who knows, maybe be another 'Gretna'!
Best wishes,
Robert
Car Expert
Of course Gretna have a new football club now, which will play in the East of Scotland League next season.

Annan's first game as an SFL club is away to Clyde in the Challenge Cup, and their first league match is away to Cowdenbeath.

I know you've all been waiting for this...

Mystic Clari's Football Predictions.

Guaranteed accurate (ish) laugh.gif

Premiership : 1st Man Utd; 2nd Chelsea; 3rd Liverpool; 4th Arsenal; 5th Aston Villa
Relegated : Hull City; Stoke City; Fulham

Championship : promoted Reading; QPR; Wolves (don't think it'll be Charlton, sadly sad.gif )
Relegated : Blackpool; Coventry City; Doncaster Rovers

Do I think Leicester or Leeds will escape League 1 this season? Leeds, quite possibly, Leicester, sadly not...
Crotchetymum
Just watched 'Escape to Victory' - ridiculous film, but brilliant to see Pele, Bobby Moore and Ossie Ardiles et al playing together (and almost acting). Shame about the big American lump in goal (sorry, not a Sylvester Stallone fan) biggrin.gif
Car Expert
Just having looked at my predictions from last season:
QUOTE(Car Expert @ Aug 3 2007, 10:51 AM) *
1. Manchester United, 2. Liverpool, 3. Chelsea, 4. Tottenham
18. Fulham, 19. Wigan, 20. Derby County
Got Man Utd and Derby right - the rest wrong...

Nearly right, but unfortunately not sad.gif
QUOTE(Car Expert @ Aug 3 2007, 10:51 AM) *
22. Bristol City
23. Blackpool
24. Barnsley
All incorrect...
QUOTE(Car Expert @ Aug 3 2007, 10:51 AM) *
I think Southampton may not do as well as last season, especially with the sacking of their chairman, but they should challenge for promotion.
Completely wrong laugh.gif
QUOTE(Car Expert @ Aug 3 2007, 10:51 AM) *
Leyton Orient will do better than last season... I predict they'll finish around 14th.
And somehow, they did finish 14th, although it should've been a lot better...mellow.gif

So let's hope I do a bit better this time laugh.gif. My preditctions for this season:

Premier League
1. Chelsea, 2. Man Utd, 3. Liverpool, 4. Arsenal
18. West Brom, 19. Stoke City, 20. Hull City

Championship
Promotion: QPR, Reading (fingersCrossed.gif), Crystal Palace
Relegation: Blackpool, Coventry, Sheffield Wednesday

I reckon Leicester and Leeds will go up, along with Tranmere.

As for Leyton Orient, I think they'll finish around 19th wink.gif

And as for Lewes, I think they'll survive in their first season in the BSP, I hope! I reckon Torquay and Oxford will go up and Altrincham, Northwich, Weymouth and Kettering will go down.

And I predict Luton will survive relegation from the Football League...

only joking wink.gif

So, the SPL, Footbal League and Non-League seasons begin today.

With Rotherham and Bournemouth both on -17 points and Luton on -30 points in League 2, it makes the relegation battle more intriguing. Amazing to think that Rotherham and Luton were in the Championship only a few seasons ago, and now they're in a battle to stay in the Football League. Hopefully other teams such as Dagenham and Accrington won't think this season will be easy in terms of survival...

Charlton v Swansea and Kidderminster v Lewes are among the pick of the matches today, with Reading playing tomorrow against Forest.

Reading are through biggrin.gif, but it took an 89th-minute goal from Noel Hunt to settle the tie.

Orient were thrashed 4-1 by Ipswich sad.gif

The shocks of the evening include:
  • Charlton losing 1-0 at home to Yeovil
  • Luton beating Plymouth 2-0
  • Rotherham beating Sheffield Wednesday on penalties
  • Macclesfield beating Blackpool 2-0
  • Doncaster losing 1-0 to Notts County
  • Norwich losing 1-0 at the MK Dons
  • Tranmere losing 2-0 at Grimsby
  • Crewe winning 2-0 at home to Barnsley

Well, they haven't done it yet.

But tonight on the radio, they said "Leicester are frustrated at their inability to score against 10 men". Doesn't bode well.
