So mess at Newcastle, but Hull managed to beat them today, so can't afford too much sympathy! first away win in premiership!

Not a great day for my sides... Reading were apparently awarded a goal that wasn't a goal against Watford...rofl.gif

Orient lost against Leicester, while Lewes conceded an 88th minute winner against Altrincham...rolleyes.gif

Just had a thought, we have three people with similar names: Kevin Keehan (Lewes manager), Kevin Keegan (former Newcastle manager) and Kevin Keen (West Ham caretaker manager). Funnily enough, Keehan mentioned the problems with Newcastle and West Ham in his interview after the Altrincham game...

Have just seen the incident... it was clearly not a goal and the decision will be reviewed by the Professional Game Match Officials Board. Also, as it says on the video, why would a Reading player kick the ball off the line to prevent a goal for them? rofl.gif

In all fairness, I wouldn't be surprised if Watford were given the three points or the match would be played again. It was a shocking decision by an experienced linesman...

If Leicester win their game in hand, then they'll go second yay.gif

Leicester beat Lincoln on penalties in the Paint trophy.

Reading lost to Stoke on penalties, while the shocks so far include Rotherham knocking out Southampton (in 90 minutes this time wink.gif), Burnley beating Fulham and Watford winning against West Ham.

Lewes were denied another away win after conceding a 90th-minute equaliser against Histon. That's the second game in a row we've conceded a goal late on in a game. What also hasn't helped is that the four teams above us (Northwich, Woking, Altrincham and Oxford Utd) all won...dry.gif

Thankfully Spurs won against Newcastle. Only Carling cup, but how bad is our start to the season?

Still early days.

Two clubs which haven't started at all well.

Gut feeling : Spurs will recover, Newcastle won't. Time will tell...

Carling Cup 4th Round Draw
Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool
Manchester United v Queens Park Rangers
Chelsea v Burnley
Arsenal v Wigan Athletic
Stoke City v Rotherham United
Sunderland v Blackburn Rovers
Brighton & Hove Albion or Derby v Leeds United
Swansea City v Watford

Looks like either the Cup holders or one of the 'big four' will go out at the 4th round stage. Man Utd v QPR will be interesting considering what happened when Man Utd played Coventry at home last season.

At least Reading have avoided the possibility of becoming another Championship scalp as we would've potentially had to travel to Rotherham...

Hull are acquitting themselves in the Premiership a lot, lot better than I, and I suspect a lot of other people, thought they would.

They're certainly doing rather better than Derby did last season!

Lost to Crystal Palace last night. sad.gif

Charlton are now in relegation form. We have the twin problems of a weak strike force and a defence that looks like it'll concede a goal with every attack from the opposition... sad.gif

3-0 to Reading away at leaders Wolves last night biggrin.gif

Despite selling the likes of Kitson and Sonko, we're still loaning out players to other clubs - Lita's now at Norwich on a month's loan...

Yes, I was surprised too... laugh.gif

Tranmere Rovers won both on Saturday and last night ! smile.gif

Tranmere are the only Wirral team, but we do also have Vauxhall Motors in Conference North , and Cammell Laird in the Unibond League.

So how do people think England/Northern Ireland/Scotland/Wales will get on in the upcoming qualifiers? smile.gif
Car Expert
England - they should beat Kazakhstan. Belarus away will be tricky, so I'm going for a draw.

Northern Ireland - I'll predict they'll get a draw at Slovenia, and they should comfortably beat San Marino at home.

Scotland - The Norway game's a tricky one to call as it will depend whether Carew will be in goal-scoring form in that match. But Scotland should edge it I would've thought.

Wales - they should beat Liechtenstein, but I don't think they'll repeat their heroic 0-0 draw away at Germany last year.

I hope they carry their Croatia form over and win both games! biggrin.gif

Northern Ireland on top form should get 6 points from these games.

I have a feeling Scotland will get beaten, I'm afraid...

Chasetown and Havant & W aside, local team Wroxham are also still in the FA Cup - they play tomorrow in an East Anglian derby at home to King's Lynn. If Wroxham win, it will be the first time in their history they will have reached the 4th qualifying round.

The coincidental thing also is that Wroxham play in the same league as the King's Lynn reserves...

Wroxham v Wrexham would be a good match wink.gif

Lewes held on to win in the end... phew! That means we're now level on points with Grays after they lost to bottom side Northwich.

Wroxham lost 2-0 to King's Lynn.

Scotland only managed a 0-0 draw against Norway, so we were both wrong wink.gif

Good second half performance by England, with the exception of the Kazakhstan goal of course!

Wales won 2-0, NI lost by the same score...

Funny that, I was thinking yesterday the team I would like to see Lewes get in the FA Cup 4th qualifying round preferably would be Leiston (the team from Wroxham's league).

And guess who we got... Leiston! Quite a coincidence that! Would've preferred it to be at home, but we can't complain about that - a good chance to reach the 1st round again, and potentially go further than that. Although Leiston will have a say in that as they will want to reach the 1st round for the first time in their history - they last reached the 4th qualifying round way back in the 1945-46 season.

Other interesting ties:
  • York v Mansfield
  • Kettering v Burton
  • Woking v Ebbsfleet
  • Crawley v Havant & W
  • Stevenage v Horsham
  • Boston Utd v Cambridge Utd
  • Oxford Utd v Hayes & Yeading
  • Oxford City v Eastbourne B
  • Durham City v Histon -> Durham thrashed Stalybridge 6-1 away from home in the last round
  • Tamworth v Barrow
  • Northwich v AFC Telford
  • Aylesbury Utd v Sutton Utd -> both have reached the 3rd round before

Can someone please tell me when Charlton are going to bother trying to play well again, or at least make some form of effort...

From what I can see, we can't score, can't defend, can't pass, and an awful lot of the team don't really seem to care.
