Hull City will remain third after a 3-0 win over West Brom. It was 10 years today they were rock bottom of the Football League. Now look where they are biggrin.gif

FA Cup News
  • Leiston and Lewes will have to do it all over again at The Dripping Pan after drawing 1-1. Lewes led at half-time, but Leiston equalised straight after the break. Now if they draw Leicester, what a tie that would be tongue.gif
  • Eastwood Town caused an upset by forcing Wrexham to a replay at Coronation Park after a 0-0 draw. No problems for Torquay, though, as they comfortably beat Chipstead ("The Chips") 4-1.
  • Famous Havant & Waterlooville beat Conference high-flyers Crawley 3-0 to go into the draw for the 1st round proper.
  • Evesham United caused one of the upsets of the round after beating Rushden 2-0. They beat Chasetown in the previous round. AFC Hornchurch also caused an upset after winning 2-1 at Weymouth.
  • Bury Town beat Basingstoke 4-1 to book their place in tomorrow's draw, and a potential clash against Bury wink.gif
  • Unfortunately, Sheffield lost 3-1 to Blyth Spartans after leading 1-0 at half-time.
  • York City and Mansfield have to face each other once again after a predictable 0-0 draw. They have already met twice at KitKat Crescent, and will meet at least three more times: in the FA Cup, Setanta Shield (at York) and in the league.

Thought it would be fitting to mention Dundee United today who got a great attendance as a tribute to their late chairman, Eddie Thompson. He would have been proud of their three points today!
Lets hope United can go on to better things as a result of his dedication and input to the club.

Redknapp has replaced Ramos at Spurs. It was always inevitable that Ramos, Poyet, etc. were going to be sacked, but didn't expect Redknapp to take charge...

FA Cup 1st round draw - selected ties
Leiston/Lewes v Fleetwood Town
Leicester v Stevenage/Horsham
Leeds v Northampton
Colchester v Leyton Orient
Havant & W v Brentford
Harlow Town v Macclesfield
Sutton Utd v Notts County
AFC Wimbledon v Wycombe
AFC Hornchurch v Peterborough
Wrexham/Eastwood Town v Brackley
Torquay v Evesham United
Curzon Ashton v Exeter City
Luton v Altrincham
Darlington v Droylsden/Belper Town
Alfreton Town v Bury Town

Wasn't expecting to get Fleetwood, but a home tie is good. Now we've got to get past Leiston in the replay...

Some interesting ties there smile.gif

Chelsea's long unbeaten home league record has finally come to an end after a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool, who go 3 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Lewes lost 3-1 to Leiston at The Dripping Pan. Great chance to get to the 1st round again and maybe even beyond that, but we didn't take the opportunity sad.gif

But good luck to Leiston - they've been in the competition since the very first round when they beat a team called Blackstones, and they look capable now of beating Fleetwood Town. Imagine Leiston drawing Manchester United in the third round? ohmy.gif

Talking of wood towns, Eastwood Town pulled off a major upset by dumping Wrexham out of the FA Cup after winning 2-0. They now face Brackley Town - both teams have never reached the 2nd round - nor have Fleetwood Town I don't think...

Reading and Orient lost today as well sad.gif

It's FA Cup first round weekend biggrin.gif

Wonder how many Cupsets we will see today. It's a big day for smaller clubs such as Leiston, Curzon Ashton and Brackley Town who are still left in the competition, and it'll be interesting to see whether they will make it through to the second round for the first time.

At the moment, unpredictable Shrewsbury are losing 1-0 to Blyth Spartans who scored after only 26 seconds!

2-0 to Blyth Spartans ohmy.gif

Blyth Spartans pulled off one of the shocks of the 1st round after beating Shrewsbury 3-1.

But the shock of the day goes to Curzon Ashton - the Unibond Division One North side survived a late Exeter comeback to win 3-2.

Histon also caused an upset after beating Swindon 1-0, while Leiston are in the hat for the 2nd round draw after forcing a replay against 10-man Fleetwood Town with a 0-0 draw.

There were also wins for Eastwood Town, Leyton Orient and Leicester, but both Burys are out after the more popular Bury lost to Gillingham and non-league Bury Town were defeated 4-2 by Alfreton Town.

Non-league sides Droylsden, Kettering, Altrincham, AFC Telford and Grays forced replays against their league opposition.

A win for Reading today biggrin.gif, and nearly for Charlton as well...

After Burnley's brilliant win at Chelsea, they now face Arsenal's youngsters at home in the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup. In other ties, holders Tottenham travel to Malky Mackay's (I like that name biggrin.gif) Watford, Stoke entertain Derby and Blackburn travel to Manchester United.

Reading beat Sheffield United today biggrin.gif... shame Charlton couldn't do us any favours against Birmingham...

Another week, another comprehensive Charlton defeat. 5-2 at home to Sheffield United.

This is looking very likely to end in only one way. Relegation.

I wonder if QPR are looking at our team sheet for tonight's match and thinking 'that's a guaranteed three points for us then'... sad.gif

QPR won 2-1. Reading could only manage a 2-2 draw against Cardiff, while Leyton Orient achieved a third successive away win, at Huddersfield.

Good wins for Eastwood Town and Forest Green (and Barrow last night) in the FA Cup. Also good to see Orient in the third round as well.

Now, can Histon pull off a shock as well tomorrow? Or maybe even Kettering...

Millwall v Carlisle or Crewe

Not the tie I wanted for Reading, but Orient-Sheff Utd should be interesting.

After travelling to three non-league grounds last season, Swansea probably got one of the worst ties possible tongue.gif. Shame about Eastwood's tie - their reward for beating Wycombe could be a potential trip to Kettering (EDIT: just realised Notts County and Eastwood are only about 7 miles apart), but a good tie for Barrow.

Charlton v Norwich - that'll be interesting because I might plan to go and see a Norwich City game soon with my uncle and cousin (as they are Norwich supporters) possibly in January. The plan was that if Norwich get past the 3rd round and get a home tie in the 4th round, I could go to that match, otherwise it'll probably have to be the Barnsley game (as that's the only January home league tie at 15:00) which isn't that appealing...

Chelsea - Arsenal is proving a good match, as expected. Blues are one up thanks to a series of mistakes by the Gunners.
Car Expert
But the Gunners win 2-1 to stay in contention for the title. Funny how Chelsea's home record is worse than Stoke's rofl.gif

Well I can't help being please with at least one of today's FA Cup results.

Having Moved to Histon in 1977 shortly before my 8th birthday, and with the exception of time spent in Huddersfield and London, only offically moving out in 1997, when I changed from being MissC to MrsD, all I can say is....

1-0.

Totally deserved. Once again, Charlton were hopeless, and deserved to lose by more than the 2-0 they did.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think Charlton will go down without even the merest hint of a fight. Useless... sad.gif

Yes, it does.

Charlton lost 2-1 at home to Coventry last night. Again, the better side won, Charlton once again were really poor.

Even at this relatively early stage of the season, I think Charlton will go down. I cannot think of a positive at all...

I'd be happy with a point (unless we concede an equaliser in the 90th minute of course wink.gif) - staying close behind Birmingham may be a good thing as it keeps the pressure on them to stay in the top 2.
