Okay, as those of you who follow this thread will know, I am NOT a Newcastle supporter. However, I can't work out whether the "news" about Shearer being appointed as their manager is an April fools joke or if it's genuine? (and please don't confuse me even more by posting jokes...).
If it is genuine then (as a Boro supporter) I'm a bit concerned as it looked like our only chance of avoiding the drop was for Newcastle to continue their slump and get relegated instead of us.

Now, I'm not anti-Newcastle, but I don't want us to go down.

It looks pretty genuine to me, but I'm not sure it'll stop the Newcastle slump...
But we know what usually happens when a new manager comes in. Newcastle will probably put on a much better performance in their next game against Chelsea (like many teams do against the big four anyway) than in previous matches and may even win. It's tough to say whether they'll stay up or not, it depends how much of an impact Shearer makes if he is appointed as manager.
I think West Brom and Middlesbrough are looking vulnerable for the drop. Stoke have some good winnable games coming up (Newcastle, Blackburn, Wigan and West Ham at home, and West Brom away) and I expect them to stay up. Bolton should be fine, and so should Blackburn who I can't believe are still in the bottom four. As for Portsmouth, they're good enough to stay up, but they really need to take their scoring chances more often and make them count, which is why I feel they've found themselves in a relegation battle. Sunderland and Hull look vulnerable for the drop at the moment unless they start winning sooner rather than later.
