Birmingham and Brenford have just started extra time.

I thought it would go to a replay.
I can never keep up with these cups and their rules on what happens after full time

I'm glad it's not just me.

There are too many games as it is to have replays in the Carling Cup. The players certainly wouldn't approve of that...
Car ExpertSo why does the FA cup have them then?

Just so it's different from the other cup competitions.
In the FA Cup, FA Trophy, FA Vase, if the original tie is drawn, then there's a replay. If it's still a draw after a further 90 minutes, then they have extra time and possibly penalties.
In the Carling Cup, it goes straight to extra time and then penalties if necessary.
In the Paint trophy, there's no extra time if the game is drawn, it goes straight to a penalty shoot-out. Example: Tranmere v Stockport tonight, which ended 0-0, with Tranmere winning 4-3 on penalties.
