A football match without enough police presence is just asking for trouble. Football fans like to have a go at each other these days for really petty reasons.

I think that's the sensible outcome, although my mother-in-law will be a bit upset because it was part of her 90th birthday present and she's been building up to it with much excitement. Do you think it'll be postponed rather than cancelled?

With footballers busy schedules and the congested fixture list these days I would say cancelled rather than postponed.

Palace game postponed. Again, this is an area badly hit by vandals, so not surprised (Crystal Palace don't play in Crystal Palace, their ground is near Croydon).

I personally think that ALL of today's matches should be cancelled, not just those in areas which have already been targetted. I'm not sure that the police know which neighbourhoods/towns/cities are likely to be next. There are a few derby matches as well, e.g. Nottm Forest v. Notts County and Leeds v. Bradford...

I would've thought Wycombe v Colchester, Southend v Leyton Orient, and possibly Stevenage v Peterborough would be called off as well...

I think with what happened last season between West Ham and Millwall, it's only sensible to postpone these matches in and around London...

I know it's a big loss, CE, but you've got 7mil for him. You can do a lot with that sort of money and get at least 3 players in.

I'm because Swansea have put in a 700k offer for our captain. He's young (24), English, one of the best defenders in the championship (and can also play in midfield if needed) and has a decent amount of premier league experience. Would Swansea really sell an equivalent player for 700k? I'd be amazed if they did. It's as bad as the 500k offer they tried to make for Emnes and Lita combined.

I doubt we're going to spend that money in this transfer window - Mr McDermott says he isn't going to replace him...

We could do with signing another striker as we've only got Hunt, Manset and Church as recognised first team strikers (Rasiak has gone to a team in Cyprus), and possibly another defender or two...

What happened?

He was slapped by new signing Gervinho (who was then sent off), but Barton probably went down to the floor as though he'd been shot I guess. An incident to watch on MOTD tonight.

On a more positive note, Reading won 2-0 at Leicester - wasn't expecting that

To give a little more detail: Gervinho went down in the penalty area - not a dive as far as I could see, and the ref wasn't interested. Whereupon Barton went over and very forcibly pulled him to his feet, leading to a mass altercation during which Gervinho slapped Barton's face (not very hard).

You should have had our ref. He'd have probably sent off the entirety of both teams and awarded the points to Leeds.
