I know the saxophone one is definitely changing but I didn't think others like clarinet were changing

What syllabuses are actually changing this year? I am confused?!
jo.clarinet
There will be new ones for descant and treble recorders, oboe, bassoon, sax, trumpet/cornet/flugelhorn and tenor trombone.

You're right, Nat, the clarinet one doesn't change - whoops!! I'll go back on the other thread quickly and delete that. Thanks (I was looking at the wrong bit!) biggrin.gif

Ah ok thanks jo!

Yeah your post confused me because I thought clarinet etc was staying the same!!
neil.clarinet
Does that mean ones that change this time will stay for 4 years? I won't have time for any exams next year and I want to do grade 8 sax and clarinet diploma eventually.

When does the new recorder syllabus come out? It's been so long since they changed it that I've forgotten how it works...

The change in the syllabus is very annoying as I am teach recorder, and am getting pupils ready for exams next year....will have to change it when the new one comes out...I wonder if it will go back to the syllabus that it was a few years ago before the current one?? Also it is a bit annoying as I would like to get on with my Grade 8 sax (will nto be ready by Spring 2006) so I will have to wait for the pieces till the syllabus comes out!
neil.clarinet
I'm thinking the same about grade 8 sax, but yes it is annoying. As far as I know though you can do the old syllabus until Spring of the year after it changes, if that's any use to you.

I'm hoping to do grade 5 oboe in the autumn (well, my teacher's hoping that I will be up to it blink.gif ) - if I decide I really need to wait until next year, will I have to learn new pieces? I hope not, there are some lovely pieces on the current syllabus!

You can use this year's syllabus until Easter 2006 (ie the first period of examining next year) in the UK. Come the summer you will have to use the new syllabus.

However, if there are any scale changes etc made (don't think there will be but we'll have to check) those apply from January 2006.

Hope that helps.

Unfortunately I don't think that I am going to be ready by then....I will try and aim to be ready though. Will have to see how things happen.

I have just bought Sally Adams First Repertoire for the Descant Recorder which looks very good - hope this is on the new syllabus. I hope she does the same thing for treble too.
ruthypegs
I hope that it uses some of the books that I have.....as music is getting so expensive!
