I was just wondering which Grade 5 pieces are the most fun to play. I chose Paragon Rag to do whenever I have the exam, but I'm not really sure about all the others- they all sound really hard cos they go so quick!!

I play A2, B2 and C3 !

I've played

A2 : Allegro , Second movement from sonata in F (Handel),
B1: Country dance by bridge and
C2: Paragon Rag.

Out of the 3, I've done very well C2 while A2 is the my poorest piece

Paragon Rag is indeed very fun. and so is the Country Dance.

Hi, although i'm not taking grade 5 in the current series as I'm taking my grade 4 the pieces that I enjoy playing are A3 pasamezzo, B2 Salut d' Amour and C1 Paragon Rag I like the double stopping.

By the way, how well are you all preparing for the pieces ?

I will have my exam in probably Sep/Oct this year, and so far, I've just done my A2... not very well...... and still haven't started the others.

How about you ?

I think 6 months are sufficent to do well in you upcoming exam. Technically,I felt that A2 is hard. I 've got 27 for it . What other pieces do you have in mind at the moment?

For my Grade 5 exam I did:

Allegro- Handel
Salut d'Amore- Elgar
Intermezzo- Harry Janos

Salut d'Amore is such a beautiful piece however when I was preparing for my exam I just found it an annoyance Shocking, i know!!
Have you thought about doing pieces not in the Grade 5 ABRSM book. Do you have the Grade 5 violin CD? I found it very useful for preparation for the exam.

Yes, i have got the CD. I was thinking of playing Allegro by Handel for my A piece but it sounds really hard on the CD. I don't really like any of the A pieces but I'll have to do one of them in the exam. I'm doing Salut D'Amour at the moment and I'm finding it hard to make it sound nice- it's all squeaky .

Paragon Rag is brilliant though

I remembered i took A2, B2 & C2. B2 is a very nice piece , full of expression. & I think C2 will give you the chance to get higher marks. good luck for your exam!

i have to agree, doing peices that arnt in the book is a good way to go, because it gives you more choice and also the examiner wont have heard those pieces as much so he'll be happy as well!its been a long time though since iv done my grade 5, but anyone whos doing grade 8 the apassionato by suk is an alternitave piece and id reccomend it because its so much fun, even though its extremely difficult!
