Hi

I'm trying to buy some music off the G8 syllabus since I have to give mine back to my teacher next week. I used to use musicroom.com but whenever I type in the name of the composer or the name of the piece it keeps bringing me back to the ABRSM G8 CD. Either I'm not doing it right, or they don't stock it.

So where can I buy music from online or can anyone make musicroom.com work!?
neil.clarinet
In musicroom it is best to use the advanced search function to be more accurate. If that doesn't find it then they probably don't have it. Musicroom are not brilliant for wind music I've found.

Other places you can order from are June Emerson Wind Music (I use them a lot)

http://www.juneemerson.co.uk/

or Brittensmusic, who have specific ABRSM lists.

I got my latest lot! from June Emerson - very quick delivery!

What are you getting?! Since you are now rich, how about everything!? laugh.gif tongue.gif

Boosey and Hawkes, they are OK..if they have it in stock, they never have any recorder music in stock though GRRRRRRRR mad.gif
What about Blackwells music?? They are very good especially if you ring them up (The Oxford number)
Garkleine
Have also used Chamberlains online shop and they were very quick. smile.gif

B&H are weird....I've ordered 2 things from them and on my account it still says they are processing!! Even though I got them months ago!
elmo
Yeah well I won't be rich if you've got anything to do with it Nat!

Thanks for the websites, I looked at June Emerson and can get it cheaper from there than I could if I went to our (supposed) local music shop. So I'll use that I think smile.gif

I'm going to buy my own copy of the Gomez, Messager solo de concours, Ridout and Arnold's Scherzetto. And maybe Tartini. tongue.gif

I'm playing all of them at the moment but have to give them back on tuesday sad.gif
neil.clarinet
Messager is fantastic! I did it for my last year recital.
elmo
My teacher found a copy of it on CD for me to listen to and I really liked it smile.gif

I haven't actually played that yet (although for some reason I said I was blink.gif ) but I really want to. I was playing all the other pieces this morning though smile.gif

I'm still not convinced about the Ridout. I like it when I play it with my teacher playing the accompaniment, but it's a bit weird when I practice at home!
neil.clarinet
The one I have is by Victoria Soames. It's ace.

I normally get music from Boosey and Hawkes but I'm still waiting on a piece of music that I ordered nearly 2 months ago and the cheque has cleared in my account so I don't know whats going on there...
elmo
You should ring them up, especially as you're cheque's cleared sad.gif Or maybe it got lost in the post?

What were you ordering?

For future reference they are pretty efficient at answering emails. They know their search lacks a bit and they'll put it on for you if it's in print (and better, in stock) but that usually takes a couple of days.

Boosey and Hawkes has access to lots of stuff all over but you may have to wait a while if it's out of stock. There's usually a note to say that when you select stuff to buy but music publishing isn't the most efficient and they sometimes can't predict delivery. Give it another week then phone them. Did you have an order number?
Hoping all turns out well. B&H wouldn't quibble over a refund if you found it somewhere else.

I have had the same problem with Boosey and Hawkes. I, now, only use them when I HAVE to and when no one else has the music that I want...althought that is quite rare as I mainly use specialist Recorder music outlets...who also order stuff in for me on other instruments...they guy knows me now, so he does not mind doing it!!! biggrin.gif

What do you mean, MAYBE Tartini!? You are getting it!

Agreed. About the fastest is a week and a half. I'd go elsewhere but they're one of the better repositories of scores and parts when they have to be bought.

Musicroom and other places stock some (instrumental) scores. I think you have to accept B&H's system when youre forced to use them - they list it, you order it, they in turn order it on.

I'm having a mean thought here - the name suggests an orchestral musician trying to sight read.

I haven't heard it! I'm going to go to our music shop and see if they have it, which I doubt, but I can try!
saxlover
It doesn't matter if you've heard it or not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
elmo
Well it does, coz I like to have an aim of what it sounds like when it's finished!
saxlover
Oh you are a fuss pot!!

You've got enough money to get it so just get it and stop moaning!! tongue.gif
elmo
fuss pot?! me?! How about pot calling the kettle black?! tongue.gif

lol

Just coz I have a bit more money, doesn't mean my budgetting system works any different!

Pardon!? Explain that in simple Nat language please?!
elmo
You buy the music, and then spend ages deciding which ones to play!

You should just send me the stuff that you get bored with! lol

or start your own shop!
saxlover
So true!!

A shop would be a good idea!! But I don't want to sell any of it! laugh.gif
elmo
well like I said, I'll go look at Tartini (while trying to drive and read Harry Potter!) and then I might buy it!
saxlover
Well I hope you like the 'look' of Tartini and get it!!
