Hi Y'all!

Here is the question: What is your nomination for the wierdest or oddest classical piece of music.

I originally excluded the modern era (because it's too easy to find wierdness there! rolleyes.gif I didn't get a lot of replies to my first post! (But those that replied, THANK YOU!)

So far I have:

Haydn's Farewell Symphony tongue.gif

Mozart's "Toy Symphony" laugh.gif

Gesualdo's last book of madrigals ph34r.gif

Mozart's "Musical Joke" cool.gif

John Cage's 4'33" dry.gif

Anything else?

I'll now take anything out of the entire body of classical music (all eras)

Schuber's Moment Musical sounds more like Scherzo moment to me. smile.gif

Anything written by Pierre Boulez. (He's written, and then updated several times, a fair number of avant garde works).

While I have every respect for the man, I've yet to find anyone, even musician friends, who actually undertands what any of his compositions are really about.

The only words of advice I can offer the uninitiated about avant garde music - don't even bother trying to listen to recordings of it. It's mind-boggling enough seeing (or performing) it live.

For me it's the musical equivalent of throwing a bucket of paint at a wall and calling the result "art".
