You can get a job in the evenings...if you are not sure on your timetable in the days. Each uni/conservatoire is different. I am at Bangor Uni and I have very few lectures a week (next term I am having 1 lecture a week) but then I have to do a lot of personal study. You can get a job as long as you are good at planning your work and efficient.
What things do you want to be taken into account when asking the cost of living at uni. Accomodation, that depends on halls/house or where in the country you are studying. My rent was £42 a week (North Wales) whereas I know in Exeter it is £69 a week. Food I would give about £15-£20 a week. And then there is drink/CDs and other stuff that change every week.
Hope this is OK

The daughter of a friend of mine studdied chemistry at Durham andthough her housemates doing other subjects were able to get jobs it was not so easy for her.
She was pretty much full time at the university with lectures and lab time son with assignments to cover too it really didn't leave time for a part time job AND sleep.

I guess it very much depends on the course timetable and workload. For instance, my degree course had a very intensive first year but a much easier timetable in years 2 and 3 when I didn't have that many hours actual lectures and lessons. I did 2 part time jobs, both connected with music. The other angle for musicians to consider is building up contacts and experience while still at college that will help get work later. Personally I found part time work refreshing after studying, but I'd say they do need to be extra organised and careful to keep work extremely part time.

Yep go for it- get a weekend job at somewhere like a clothes shop. I had to get a part-time job to fund way through first 2 years and then i got teaching work. You have very few lectures at conservatoire so divide free time between practise and working!! good luck! xx

I'm not at a conservatoire but doing performance at uni and still have time for a job. I suppose it just depends how many evening rehearsals you've got, how many hours of lectures you've got and how much you desperately need the money!!!
I've got a job in the Student Union in the bars. Having the Union as employers mean they're really sympathetic with my crazy timetable so am able to switch shifts when I need. Try and get a flexible job so you can allow for concerts and practices.
Without my job I think i'd be living on the streets!!!!nAs long as it's something you enjoy, you'll manage to squeeze it in I'm sure!
