I'm noweher near grade 8 yet (just taken grade 4 piano...!!) but I'm just curious, what do u do after grade 8, cos thats the highest grade, is there some sort of exam after that, or are you just a 'fully qualified pianist' or something!?! Sorry, I'm really confused, and don't know what to do after grade 8 (when I eventually get there, someday...!) Love Allie xoxox

After grade 8 you REALLY learn how to play.....

There are diploma exams after grade 8 which are treated more like formal recitals. Beware, many underestimate the standard required for these. It's a MUCH bigger leap from grade 8 than any successive grades are. I am guessing the first diploma would be comparable in standard to a first or second year recital at one of the royal schools.

Obviously that will be some time away, so clearly your objective right now is to do your best in the graded exams and whatever other events you have. Good luck with your playing.

There is a DipABRSM then you can take LRSM and then FRSM you'd have to be seriously good! You could take degrees aswell

Then you practice and practice and become a concert pianist revered around the world and you start composing and your works go down in history as some of the most awe-inspiring ever and when you die there is a memorial in Hyde Park for you.

I recently passed my grade 8. I'd like to go for the dipABRSM but I don't think I'll have the time to do it, at least not for a while.

hi...im doing grade 8 now....its really hard, so im not particularly dreaming about what i will do after.

But i know, after grade 8....seeing as i wil hopefully have about 3 or 4 years till uni, i would like to try the Dipabrsm. thats becoming a bigger trend these days, i think

I'm hoping to take grade 8 in the spring ( after I take grade 8 keybaord @ christmas). After that, i want to take grade 8 theory in the summer, then maybe a diploma - what do you think???

Do you take keyboard exams on another board?...if that makes sense - another exam board I mean?
