I like you, Boo. I only take the mickey out of people that I like, for example, flutey, musogeek and my daughter. Well done, Boo. Honest. That was a truly fantastic result. biggrin.gif

My 8yr old is doing the grade 2 theory workbook now more or less by herself but she hopes to do her grade 5 theory as her first exam, eventually. Just the grade 5, mind, as it's the only compulsory one. smile.gif

Any tips on how to manage will be great as her theory teacher is completely hopeless! In the last 6 months, she told me her teacher has only turned up only 4 times in class. We can't complain as the lessons are free! mad.gif

Could you not get her a private theory teacher?

Well done Boo!

Thanks, noodle. We have thought of that but then it'd be costly as she has various interests/hobbies. Her books alone cost us a fortune last year as she reads like nobody's business even though she reads library ones as well. Recently, she wanted a science kit. We had to say no. Her violin lessons are not cheap either now that she needs an hour. But we are not complaining as she's a very kind and really helpful girl. At school, her teacher told us she helps some kids who are stuck with maths - the kind you don't get jealous of bec she's so nice to everyone!

But any advice from Boo - I'll pass on to her and let her figure it out! smile.gif

Old teacher? Have you got a new one then?
isabelsmells
yep, there was basically a fall out between him and my family, so I'm not quite sure what to do.

Does she learn piano? Because I found it invaluable to learning the structure of maj/min chords, etc. as you can clearly see intervals. If she does learn of even if she has a keyboard to practise on, she could gradually start to learn chord structures which is quite fundamental to a lot of the grade 5 stuff!

After a few years she should be pretty comfortable with that if she picks things up quickly. smile.gif

Theres a little red book that you can get from ABRSM that runs you through exactly what you have to do for theory grades 1-5, which is useful as you have to know previous grades theory too for a grade 5 theory exam. It describes each part of the exam and is brill! Also past papers are useful!

66 for pass
80 for merit
90 for distinction

Was that what you meant? unsure.gif
