Hello - wondered if anybody could give me some advice please !!

I am wanting to start a couple of my students on the Grade 1 syllabus but I notice that there are now 2 exam pieces books available -
2004 - 2005 and 2005 - 2006

Can anyone tell me what is the last examining period I can use the 2004 - 2005 book and what is the first examining period for the 2005 - 2006 ?

Would appreciate any help on this !! smile.gif
Many thanks

The current A.B.R.S.M. pieces are 2005-2006, (purple). The last ones were 2003-2004, and were green, (out of date). Don't know where you got 2004-2005 from!

Can I just add that the current (2005-6) pieces will normally be valid for one more term after the end of 2006,

ie the spring term of 2007,

although you should check the syllabus for any changes to other requirements.

The above responses are correct if you live in the UK. There may be different timescales elsewhere across the world. If you don't live in the UK, check with your local representative to ensure your pupils are playing from the correct syllabus.

I presume you are referrring to the piano syllabus? Arrangements differ for other instruments too. If in doubt, check the current syllabus for your country for all requirements at any one grade.

Best of luck

If it's 2003-2004 then they're no longer valid. 2004-2005 doesn't exist as far as I know! 2005-2006 are current - all this year and next, and you should still be able to use them for the last time in March/April 2007, even when the next set of exam pieces are published (which should be 2007-2008).
Are you sure that both the exam books are Associated Board exam books and not, say Guildhall or Trinity? I don't use the Guildhall and Trinity exams so I've no idea how and when they publish their exam books. (Oh yes, sorry, I forgot, as oboist pointed out different instruments may be different - I am referring here to the piano syllabus only.)

Thankyou all for your replies and advice !!

I think I got a little confused - when I looked in the ABRSM publishing website I'm sure it said 2004-2005 and then 2005-2006 but I think it must have been my tired eyes and one glass of wine too many....oops !!!! rolleyes.gif

Thankyou all once again !!
