what did everyone choose?
carys
I haven't chosen for definite yet, but so far I like the Aria by Telemann (List A) and 'Playful Flute' from Bullard's 'Fifty for Flute' (List C).

How about you?

I did the Bach Sicilienne for list A, Sunrise, Sunset for list B, and the Telemann study from 76 studies for C... really enjoyed them all, though the Bach I think is probably quite hard to pull off as it's such a well known tune and done by lots of v good flautists! However I couldn't resist because it was so beautiful. Sunrise, Sunset is a really lovely setting of the song from Fiddler On The Roof, it's got some tricky breathing decisions to make but it's a good piece smile.gif the Telemann is great! a movement taken from one of his Fantasias.

Two pupils of mine (who share a lesson) recently took grade 4 and chose completely different pieces- which was a bit awkward but we managed!
A Les Roseaux (Music Through Time Book3)
A Gavotte (Time Pieces Book 3)
B The Way To Rock (Steve Pogson) - lovely piece
B Ein Kinderscherz (Time Pieces Book 3)
C Study No 32 (76 Graded Studies)
C Playful Flute -Alan Bullard

The current List B is a great selection, particularly if you like slow ballad-like pieces. I've someone doing These Foolish Things at the moment, which is a lovely arrangement, and my Grade 4 student who has just passed with 118 got 27 for When Tomorrow Comes.

I've also had two do Fudge Fandango and one do Transformation. I really like the Saint-Saens Pavane de Proserpine, but with so many good choices around no-one has decided to do it yet.

Les Roseaux is a regular favourite from List A, and I've had one do the Hook Sonata and one do Les Carillons.

List C has a lot of good choices too, although I wouldn't recommend the James Rae (nowhere to breathe) or the Russell Stokes - both a little tricky for Grade 4 IMO. I've done the other 5 on the list at least once each, and I like the Telemann the best.
