it depends totally on how good you are how much effort and dedication you put in and how long you've been playing. Take me for example, ive been playing Clarinet 5 years and im Grade 6 standard, been playing Piano nearly 3 years and im doing Grade 8 and i pour my heart into them both along with Recorder and flute (both about grade 6-7)

How long is a piece of string?! My 14 year old has grade 8 on one instrument, grade two on another! can't think that age would be the most relevant thing, except that you'd presumably need to have been learning for a while (hugely variable) or have good experience of other instruments, before you got the higher grades. My piano teacher reckoned that average progress was about a year at each grade, if you started at 6 or 7, practised regularly and didn't have any time out. But she said it's enormously variable. Would it be more helpful to look at it in terms of what you want to achieve, how long you've been learning, how much time you have, how hard you work at it, how easy/difficult you find it? Also the exams aren't necessarily the only indicators of your standard/ability/experience.

It depends when you started, and how much practice you do.

Did you not get the answer you wanted the last time you asked virtually the same question?

Could you have a look at the rules please? Text talk isn't allowed.

Well, it depends on loads of different factors (teacher, practise, motivation)!

I only just turned 17, so I suppose I would still count, and I've been playing the flute for almost 4 years. I've done grade 6 flute and am working towards grade 8. I've only managed to get so far because of a very good teacher and because I played the recorder before, though.

Well if you have been playing for 10 years or so then probably one of the advanced grades but if only a year or two then probably grades 2-3 maybe 4 but it really depends entirely on the person; how much they practise, how well they pick it up, how much effort they put in to it, how well they understand music. It doesn't matter though whether you ar e grade1 or grade 8.

...and because you're very talented! tongue.gif no kidding Charlotte - you would not have got 138 without a good dollop of talent to go with your recorder background and good teacher smile.gif
crazy cow
as everyone else has said, depends how long you've been learning
so to add to the confusion...
im 16, been having piano and flute lessons for 2yrs in sept, previously self taught keyboard, estimated at grade 1/2 standard when i started lessons
i have just taken grade 5 piano, now working on associates diploma with victoria college of music
working on taking grade 6 flute at christmas
i practise every day, quite a bit because its my therapy smile.gif
so there you go, some more random pieces of information that will probably help make it even harder to answer your question!

It depends at wht age you start playing. I've been playing the flute since I was 7/8 (I'm 16) and I'm grade 8. However everyone in my music class has different grades. Some people have been learning for 2 years, some havent taken exams but have been playing for a long time. It also depends on how much practise you do. I'm a bit obsessive about practising! Well its my hobby, and it helps me get away from the stresses of the day.

It doesnt matter about grades and ages, just that you have a love of music and enjoy playing whatever you play!
