I would like to know as well as I've just ordered it from my local music shop. I liked it most out of all the C pieces although I did have a go at Feelin' Good first to save having to go & buy an alternative piece but I didn't really like it.

Melody mainly in the LH with lots of flowing semiquavers in the R, scalic and arpeggio-ish patterns - D major, slowish 3/4 time 2 pages long. LH crosses over RH a couple of times on the second page. Needs a bit of pedal and some rubato.
Not a lot to go on, but maybe it's a start.

While we're on the subject, does someone know how Lavender Field (Karen Tanaka) and the Eight Maids are Milking ones are like?

"8 Maids a Milking" requires rapid staccato.. also Time Signature changes. It is still a great piece and being by Richard Rodney Bennett, a good piece to impress the examiner once the challenges have been met.

Would recommend lots of rubato - instruction at the top is "Rubato"!
Also needs lots of pedal - virtually throughout.
Think of Debussy, even though this is light music, jazz influenced.

I seem to remember Lavender Field is very beautiful - this one is the Debuusy-like one, I think. The only real challenge is keeping the RH in 6/8 and the LH in 3/4, with some 2 against 3 playing (but only little bits.) I think it's a nicer piece than the Norton one, but the latter has some lovely jazz chords, and a nice flowing RH. Bring out the LH well and watch where the melody passes into the RH to bring that note out also. The Tanaka one is similar in that the melody is in the LH. (It reminds me a bit of the Bloch 'Dream' piece in grade 5.)

Yes, that is what I'm having trouble with. Lovely piece though.

That doesn't work... would it be possible to find another one? I would really like to have a listen...
Thanks for the help on Lavender Field, everyone. The different time signatures sound confusing though...

I received the book for Lavender's Kind of Blue today (it was £9.99 by the way if anyone was wondering how much it cost) & was surprised at how quickly I have picked it up. I only needed to play through it a couple of times before I got the hang of it. It helps that you need to play with lots of rubato as you are free to do what you like with it. The book itself comes with an accompanying CD which has performances of the pieces as well as backing tracks that you can play along to. The other songs in the book are a bit childish & I was surprised that a grade 6 piece would be among them but they are ok for a bit of fun. I don't think I will have much trouble with this & I am pleased that it won't be as difficult as Allegro from list A which needed a lot of work when I first started to learn it.
Anyway good luck to anyone else who's learning this!

I was going to buy that book, but saw the other pieces in it, it made it seem like such a waste! Are they even jazzed up versions of the other pieces?
Anyway, it sounds nice, here's the link that grand piano girl posted:
HereIt wouldn't work on the webpage because of the apostophe, but the file's still there

I don't think Mr Norton would get a very high mark for this performance!
(a) Where is the Rubato that is specified as an instruction a the beginning of the piece.
(

The melody in the bass is simply not prominent enough!
Listen instead to the ABRSM CD.

Thanks Matt, that worked for me.

It's a pretty piece and I quite like it, although I'd want to look at the music before I choose it.
