I can't recall whether it's rubra or rubbra - it's too late and I'm off to bed soon! - but people seem to love this guy and I'm assured the music is flutable (I promise, guys, I will try it on recorder too!!!) edit: I should say that I don't even remember offhand which one I mean - the title - I will come back to this tomorrow and hope to be more coherant!

Totaly unrelatedly, well maybe not totally... anyone got any suggestions for good grade 1-3 music/books, stuff from the syllabus or just tutors, specifically for treble... I have heaps of descant music but next to no treble, and it's the treble that I actually prefer to play! I may consider at some point taking a grade to see how my playing is to an impartial observer (LOL) but mainly I just want a nice book or two, with maybe some syllabus stuff, to rediscover my treble, and would like to have some idea of what kind of level I am playing at while I'm playing... if that makes sense...

I have absolutely no idea where to look for any recorder music at all! Any good online or mail order shops with websites?

Any anbd all help appreciated, and hope this makes sense, should've gone to bed a loooooooooong while ago...

theres a Loiellet Sonata on the Grade 3 Treble recorder board at the moment, that looks good, and the Corette Suite in C on Grade 1 and 2

'From old England' is a good collection of dance tunes. Amazing Solos for Treble Recorder contains pieces from Praetorius to Bernstein. Alan Ridout's A Day in the Country is an interesting collection of original pieces. Slightly harder (and what I was playing on sopranino tonight, btw) is Preludes and Voluntaries - a good finger workout. (This includes preludes by 'Mr Finger' and 'Mr Gasparini' - very appropriately named. laugh.gif )

I forgot to add, the Rubbra piece I did for Grade 8 is Meditatzione sopra 'Coeurs Desoles'. There is another piece set for Grade 6 called Passicaglia sopra 'Plusieurs Regrets', but I haven't got that.

Thanks guys.

Andante, Would you recommend Amazing Solos? I've heard of that, always sounds an interesting book...
Hehe, Finger and Gasparani, I like it! laugh.gif
And thanks - I knew vaguely what the Rrubbra piece was called but no brain the last few days. I wonder if anyone publishes a collection of Rubbra...
I did look in the music shop yesterday but couldn't find any recorder music AT ALL, never mind have a browse.

GCBS, are they pieces you have seen the music to or played?

I do have ancient grade 3 Trinity books, most of which I can play but the pieces aren't very inspiring so far... Some of them are OK, others are a tad dull... Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming? smile.gif What I'd really like is a book with an interesting spread of pieces at reasonable but different levels. If that makes any sense! rolleyes.gif

It's almost impossible to find recorder music at general music shops, apart from the beginners' books.

I get mine from various online sources: Recorder Music Mail, Saunders Recorders and Chamberlain all have a good supply.

Amazing Solos includes the following:

Peruvian Dance Tune
The Keys of Canterbury
The Wang Wang Blues
Mayim, Mayim
Allegro - Mozart
Tanz des Burgermeisters - Praetorius
If my complaints could passions move - Dowland
Ballet - Praetorius
Watkin's Ale
Three Moravian Folk Songs - Janacek
Tambourin I and II - Aubert
Lord Inchiquin - Turlough Carolan
Troika - Prokofiev
Muskrat Ramble
Bouree from Fireworks Music - Handel
Paragon Rag - Joplin
Larghetto - Vivaldi
America - Bernstein
Winter - Vivadi
Seguidilla from Carmen - Bizet
Minuet for Anna Magdalena - Bach

approximate standard Grades 1-4.

Hope this helps.

It does - thank you! - and a few suppliers to try! thank you very much smile.gif

Our local general music shop doesn't even have a great range for very popular instruments, so for recorders I didn't expect a lot. Oh well!
