Full Version: Fl - New Front Teeth - Embouchure Altered

I've had a new bridge and crowns for the front top 6 teeth. As the old one was broken by my bite the new ones have been set differently - slightly further forward. (my bottom teeth dont touch the top at all when I chew now, where before they slid down the inside edge of the top ones)

I now have a bigger air hole with what feels like my normal embrouchure. My high notes are a real struggle, they need much tighter muscles. My middle/low notes sound really airy. sad.gif

I have a lesson tomorow and I'm wondering if I should cancel til I get adjusted or is there something I can do to correct for it fast? unsure.gif

I would go to your lesson and get your teacher's help and advice in adjusting. It's often useful to have an extra pair of eyes and ears on board. I hope the adjustment doesn't take too long. smile.gif

Thanks andante_in_c . It's sooo frustrating. I'll go and see what she says. I want my theory book marking anyway biggrin.gif

Hi Snuglivixen (cute name btw!),

I don't know about flutes, but I had my top front teeth crowned a few years back and it took a while for my mouth to get used to my new teeth even without trying to play a musical instrument! I spent a while lisping until I got used to them tongue.gif I would imagine that once you are more used to yours and they start to feel natural to you, you won't find it so difficult to play your flute again smile.gif

Good luck!

ETA: I'm so glad I had my teeth crowned because there's no way I'd have managed an oboe embouchure before without slicing my lips up on my wonky teeth! ph34r.gif
