Anyone else been playing their instrument for several years, and now beginning to wonder if you made the right choice? If you should jack it all in?
I had a bit of a set back in my playing recently and it's just knocked the small confidence I had in my own playing (which took years to emerge) right out of me. Any advice/ similar experiences?

As a horn player of many years I would say there comes a point at which you feel you have got as far as you think you can get.
You have to put the effort in and work at whatever problem there is ...it'll take a lot a effort to achieve a little.
In the later stages of brass playing it might take hours of practice to achieve one additional thing.
Persevere....it's worth it.
Can I ask what's your current set back?
Cheers

Well I was on an audition for one of the top musical establishments in the country, and although I did not fail the musical aspect of the audition (it was the interview) I was auditioned on many instruments. The euphonium proffesor pretty much ripped my playing apart (which incidently I thought was a bit unnecessary, as it was just the audition, and he wasn't giving it as advice) it just really flattened me.

I am not thinking about giving up my instrument, but I know someone, who gave up piano as a teenager, and her parents sold the piano before she changed her mind and wanted to play again. So my advice is to just keep going!
