Hey singers!
I have sung for as long as I can remember, in shows and in concerts etc and about a year ago I started having lessons with a peri in my school.
I am starting year 11 in September, and for my sixth form years, I have decided that I want to go to a boarding school. My only problem is that I won't be able to pay for it without a scholarship and I have decided to apply for a music one.
My teacher has often told me I am above G6 standard, it's just that I didn't see the need to do exams in singing just yet. So, when I looked at the G8 sylabus, I saw a few of my favourites in the D list (ones which I have sung countless times) like "Can't help lovin' dat man" and "some enchanted evening" and for a music scholarship I need two contrasting pieces of a G8 standard. So I have decided my jazzy/modern one will be "can't help lovin'" but I need some clues and advice as to what classical one to pick. I did hope that "Voi che Sapete" was there, but alas it isn't!
My range is odd as well. I can sing from a D below middle C to about an Eb above the C above middle C.
Anyone help??
Thanks!

Hi Natalie-Marie
Why shouldn't you sing "Voi che Sapete" anyway? It will make a good contrast, and it's not like you have to stick to a given syllabus.
You're a lowish alto, but not that odd - there should be plenty of stuff you can have a go at.
Good luck
Cheers

What sort of grade do you think Voi che Sapete is anyway? I would guess about seven. Is that right?

I had a feeling I'd seen it on the lists - it's on the current grade 6 list (list A), listed for Mezzo or Alto

I've been wondering about a few songs and where they were ( i know that they are on one list or another- my voice teacher cleared that up) but i don't really know how to get to the lists so that i can check it out myself- it seems like a stupid question but- how do you look at the lists?

Here's the link to the entire grade 1-8 syllabuses for all exams. Just scroll down until you see singing (it's quite close to the bottom)
