Full Version: Going Back To Previous Grades....

Hey!! This might be a silly question, but I was wondering if anybody has skipped a certain grade, and later after doing more grades, ever gone back to the old grade which they skipped, if that makes sense...
For example, I've always liked the thought of having a certificate for every grade basically just to show you have passed all the grades etc! (Don't ask me why!) However, I skipped my grade 3, and went straight on to grade 4. In the future, sometime would it be possible to go back and take my grade 3, just for the sake of having the certificate to 'complete my collection'? I know it would be pretty pointless, but has anyone ever done this? XXXX

It's always possible. Not a problem at all as far as I can see!
They don't refuse your entry just because you have a higher grade.

After studying flute for three and a half years, I have not officially taken any exam yet, but have been simulating the Grade 1 and 2 exams prior to taking the Grade 3 Flute this fall. If you do go for the lower grades, plan to take them serious...

I thought I would breeze through grade 1, accomplish grade 2 with simple familiarization, and then start working seriously on Grade 3. I did not do as well on my simulated Grade 1 exam as I, or my teacher, expected. Preparing for the Grade 2 exam, I found a very serious hole in my skills that has taken weeks of daily, targeted work and it is still far from "with distinction".

So, yes, go back and do the lower grades, even if it is only with your teacher.

Certainly if you want all the certificates. They probably won't even realise you done a higher grade before.

Yeah... just don't tell them. wink.gif

I suppose if you were going back to a previous grade then you would probably get a distinction, quite good if you have never got a distinction before!

I would so like to resit Grade 1 and get 148/150....lol

I was wondering. If, say, a Diploma level musician went back and sat Grade 1, do you think they would be able to get full marks? In fact, has anyone ever got full marks for an exam?
anakrron
I don't personally know anyone who have, but I have heard that some people get 150/150. I'm not sure if a Diploma level person goes to do Grade 1, they will get full marks... they might, but examiners don't like giving perfect marks, I reckon. wink.gif

There's a thread about getting 150/150. Only about four people get that every year.

I would want to resit all my grades when I'm more confident. I get memory loss, I freeze and I can't stop shaking. The full works really.

Well no, the only exam I've ever really suffered from nerves was Grade 7 and that was because I KNEW that I hadn't practiced enough and wasn't really ready.

It would actually be quite interesting to see people do this; some people go through higher grades and, whilst getting technically better, don't get musically too much better. I suspect that there are a few people who could, say, scrape grade 5 but not make 130 on grade 1 (of if they did not break it by that much).
