Hi EtudeInGold

I know this piece very well. The particular passage you describe is an absolute beast, sad.gif unless you have huge hands (and I do not). The technique is hard to describe, but I will try.

The secret to playing the lh is not to try to hold your wrist still - this just leads to tension and uneven playing. Take the first group of semis B F# A B. Your wrist needs to start quite low, then lift slightly and move towards the right as you play the F# and B. If you get this right then it will be slightly leading your fingers in the direction the notes are travelling.

Come the 4th semi, the B, your wrist should still be leading your hand but needs to fall in preparation to going back to the starting position for the first note in each group.

By the time it finishes each group of semis, your left wrist will have followed an eliptical circle, rather like a planet with a very long orbit round the sun. This is horribly complicated to describe, so I hope it makes sense. Do say if it does not and I will have another go.

The rh here is just a matter of careful fingering and slow practise, although playing around with the rhythm also helps a lot once you know the notes - look further down Viva Piano to one of my replies to Fred ('Speed vs Accuracy') to find the location of a description I posted recently on how to use them.

Hope all this helps

Hey-ho. We can only do our best. He will eventually get bored and go to play somewhere else biggrin.gif
noodle
He might if we ignore him.
flutey toot
come on guys give him a chance!!! He obviously loves his music a lot and seems to genuinely want to forget the Riots of August and start afresh! I know he had/has a habit of bigging himself up but if he has honest questions regarding playing advice then we should help him!!
(otherwise we'll have to get Musogeek and Wagners Ring on to him again!!)

dont worry EtudeInGold - ill back you up (unless you become a goit again!!)

Did you call Flutey toot?
flutey toot
Morning Ringster - no worries, just asking you to remain on standby lest the One Who Was Chopin kicks up but he wont because he is good lad so you can return to your comedy postings for the day!
ciao!

I must have missed something - what's happened to GCBS? I just assumed he must have gone on holiday or something.
flutey toot
Oh Chocolate dog youve missed a treat!!! Virtual riots were occuring practically everywhere GCBS went on each part of the forum.....so he got banned, cam on under a different, name, got banned, different name....and now he is Etudein Gold but hes being given another chance and so far so good!!

Check out some of the other forum areas such as the awesome Chopin Nocturnes thread, um...... Something strance with the Top Posters (on General Music i think)

It all got rather out of hand but it was pretty amusing, poor chap!

I must have missed it all ! What was the second name he came on under?

EtudeInGold is now unregistered. How did that happen overnight, it's the weekend?

It seems that Polonaises and PianistVersion2 have also gone. Maybe the moderators are trying to give GCBS a little hint that they are not happy with multiple IDs... huh.gif

yep they have

How can someone be unregistered and still post replies on the forum - I don't quite understand how it all works.
sarah-flute
I'm guessing that it's only his 3 newest IDs that have been de-registered. So as any of those 3 IDs he can no longer post, cannot access old posts or PMs, cannot edit posts. But as GCBS he can post, although as I presume he's still under moderation, he'll have to wait till Monday before posts appear (assuming that the moderators decide his posts are allowable.) S'how I understand it, anyway...

Looking at the posts of Polonaises and PianistVersion2 I can see the similarities in writing style. I didn't really spot it before as I was away and only had limited access to a computer so had to be fairly quick on the forums.
