Hey! How much piano practise does everybody do per day/week etc? I do anything from 30 mins - 1 hr most days, although occasionally I will go a day without any! What about everyone else? What is considered a lot and a little practise? Thank you XxXxX

I practise 1-2 hours/week ohmy.gif

I'm hardly the dedicated piano student, but I have too many other things to do!

I spend more time on my bassoon and recorders, though.
Oddball
About an Hour a day, mostly on piano over the holidays. Meh, I should practice more clarinet!!!

There's already another similar thread on this topic at
http://forums.abrsm.org/index.php?showtopic=7585&hl=

although the original poster mentioned in brackets she was referring more to grade 8 students but it may be some help - I haven't looked through all the posts so I can't tell off-hand.

.... I knew there was something I had to do..... ph34r.gif

I usually do about an hour a day. However, I have not done any for the last 3 days which is very unusual for me but I feel very refreshed and raring to go again so it has done me good. And 3 days is really nothing so I am very pleased I tried it. I would recommend it to others who practice regularly but who find their enthusiasm deteriorating.

Yeah, I see what you mean, shelton. When I practice solidly every single day, I sometimes lack motivation, but when I'm away from the keyboard for a few days I really want to play it again. biggrin.gif

I usually practice the piano every day, though I tend to miss out about a day every week. When I practice, it's normally for about 30 minutes to 45 minutes, though sometimes I do it in snippets (like 3 times of 10 minutes each).

Now as for that clarinet... haven't touched it for about a week now. Oops. tongue.gif

I usually practice ½ and half - 1 hour a day, depending on what I'm doing for the rest of the day.

I doubt it!

How much do I practice -hmmm- not enough!
crazy_purple_piano_freak
This might be a bit strange, but when people talk about practise do they mean that actual improvement takes place, because in that case i do very little! Most of my 'practise' time consists of playing Einaudi and Joe Hisaishi, not sure whether this counts...hmmmm sounds nice though! laugh.gif

Snap!! All I do when playing piano now is Einaudi or erm, a random piece! I never do scales or anything constructive!

I think we need the Walking Dictionary again:

Practise
1. To do or perform habitually or customarily; make a habit of: practices courtesy in social situations.
2. To do or perform (something) repeatedly in order to acquire or polish a skill: practice a dance step.
3. To give lessons or repeated instructions to; drill: practiced the students in handwriting.
4. To work at, especially as a profession: practice law.
5. To carry out in action; observe: practices a religion piously.
6. Obsolete. To plot (something evil).

I haven't really done any proper practice since February ph34r.gif I've started again now and I play for about half an hour-an hour depending on how fast my wrist gives in!

I used to do half an hour before school, half an hour at school and an hour after school, but I don't do that any more!
