I did both Theory and Musicianship and teach both too. I have a few students doing Jazz but they aren't near grade 5 yet.

Jazz exams are fun, they're a good break from 'normal' exams.

I'm about to sit my grade 5 theory so that i can carry on and do up to grade 8.

if you are doing grade 5 theory, i recomend "take 5 and pass first time" which you can buy on musicroom.com

Theory is soooooooooooooo boring but people have different opinions I suppose!! I think taking grade 5 as your first exam is fine. Does anyone do grade 6, 7 and 8 theory by the way...apparently it's really really hard!!!

And I will doubly recommend it, as it was the main factor in me getting G5 theory distinction.
I found theory quite interesting, and it certainly isn't that hard to get a pass.

They'll sell that book in music shops right? I'll need to get it. I did grade 2 theory but then I had to change teachers, he doesn't teach theory and I just found out I need to get grade 5 theory, jazz etc. So I'm going to read up on grade 3, 4 and then take 5.

Yeah you can get it from shops or order it online. If you have Grade 5 practical, I don't really think you need to work your way up through 3 and 4. I did practically no theory before Grade 5 (maybe half a Grade 1 workbook) and didn't find it too challenging. The best idea is to learn the stuff and then do some past papers, preferably with a teacher or other qualified person to go through the questions you got wrong.

I took theory because I didn't know you could take the others. In fact I'm not sure you could at the time... and I probably would have taken theory anyway!

Did you take the Practical Musicianship exam, or just the practical exam for your instrument? There is a difference...
