whitedaisy's post gave me an idea. tongue.gif

There's a piano piece I heard in school some 20 years ago and I've never heard it again, although I've often wondered what it was called (especially since I'm planning to learn the piano and maybe might be able to play it one day...).

Can anyone identify it from what I've put below? (G-- is a dotted minim, G is a crotchet, g is a quaver)

If it was in C major, I think the right hand would play:

G— ECGGG
G— E cdefgabc
BAAA ba gsharp a CA
Fsharp GGGG--

And I think the left hand would play:

CECECECE
CECECECE
DFDFDFDF
CECECECE

I know it's a bit of a long shot, and I'm not even sure if I've remembered the tune correctly, but hey - it's worth a try! biggrin.gif

Thanks,
carys

I'm pretty sure it's from a Mozart piano sonata, sorry can't remember which!

I thought the same, but a quick look through both books of Mozart sonatas didn't bring it up. I wonder if it's Clementi .......... it is certainly very familiar and I can't help feeling I've played it fairly recently sad.gif

oh btw the LH part in the third quarter might be

C and F rather than D and F.

Found it - it's the first mvt of a Clementi sonatina, Op 36 no 3.
I too thought it 'sounded' like Clementi, so I've just got the book out and it is definitely that one! smile.gif

Well done Jo - maybe I'll sleep tonight now ..........

Oh my goodness, I can't believe I've got a name for this piece after all these years!

Many thanks jo.clarinet, and everyone else who racked their brains! biggrin.gif

I actually just played that Sonatina!
Very nice concert piece, if played well.
I think you should try to play it carys, because it really isn't that hard, and it's very nice.

You can listen to it here:

Scroll down to Sonatina Op.36 No.3 First Movement

When I first listened to it, I loved it!

I think you should try to play it if you really enjoy listening to it.

Thanks YoungPianist!

It's incredible to hear it again after all these years. And the tune is exactly as I remembered it too. Left hand slightly different though.

Amazing coincidence - it's in C major!

Did you play it for an exam, a concert, or just for fun?
Mrs Beethoven
I hunted out my copy of this music yesterday and have been playing it all weekend! It's a lovely tune - very good excercise for the fingers. I'm trying to memorise it at present as that is something I am not very good at but surprisingly I find this piece easy to do.
Thanks for reminding me of it.
