I got a Woodchester ( I don't think they do pianos anymore, that makes mine a classic cool.gif ) It's very good, but Yamaha are better in my opinion.

I played a gorgeous Woodchester in my local music shop about a year ago. I went back and played it about 10 times, but unfortunately couldn't afford it at 8000 pounds... sad.gif

However now I have a Challen piano which I love even more, so I'm happy! biggrin.gif

another crazy pianist
As a piano tuner, I see and hear a lot of pianos every day. Recently I discovered a make I never saw before, but I was surprised by its quality: "Schulze-Pollmann", an Italian make (Bolzano). Does anyone know more about this one ?

The most wonderful piano I ever played was a full-sized Boesendorfer during my student days at RNCM.

As far as I know, there are 3 piano makes generally considered to be of top quality, i.e. STEINWAY, BOESENDORFER and FAZIOLI.
I prefer Steinway for its subtlety and directness, but I 've never played on a Fazioli. This is a new Italian make (since about 1990). Some people think it's better than Steinway or Bösendorfer. I live in Belgium and Fazioli doesn't seem to break through up here; I'm anxious to get to know it ! Anyone ?

There are also some wonderful Bechsteins around - in fact I'd always considered the trio as Steinway, Bechstein, Bosendorfer before the Fazioli came out. I'd love to try one but haven't had the chance yet.

But one of the best pianos I ever played was a Bechstein in the Royal College of Music in London - an absolute beauty! It was a real dream. wub.gif
