Full Version: Heard Of An "u"?

I'm trying to find a description or an image of an u. It's supposed to be related to the Japanese sho, a free-reed "manifold" type mouth organ, and is used in gagaku court music. Here's a link to the sho:

This article also mentions the u, but i haven't been able to track down any more info than that. Does anyone know?

The "U" is basically the same as the "sho", it just has longer pipes and therefore a deeper pitch.

Sorry, I don't have my books with me to give details...and I donated most of my books on court music to a university...that's all I can remember.

Thanks, that helps - I had no idea what it was. It's for a fiction project, and i didn't want to be totally wrong in my application. Now that i know, i'll use some other instrument.
