I had my braces fixed a couple of months ago, and it is a pain as I play the trumpet! sad.gif It is painful at the begining, but it soon gets better. The best thing to do is to not play for the first couple of days, and then, gradually, build up the amount of time you practise each day. Just don't overdo at the begining and you'll be fine. Just abit of advice for others! smile.gif

I've got braces, but luckily I play the piano so I won't have any problems with my instrument.

there are some things you can get for your mouth - they sit in your mouth llike teeth i think - and protect you braces and gums whill allowing you to play your instrument

I cancelled my orthodontist appointment whe I was finally going to get braces fitted after going for three years to see if I was ready because I couldn't bear the thought of not being able to play the cornet properly biggrin.gif Just moving to soprano probably helped to put me off as playing that wasn't very comfy on the lips at first without braces!!

i have some advice- get loads of wax- it helps so much- im a singer and it is hard to move your mouth over all that diction with these nasty braces, but someone recommended loading up on wax- like crazy amounts, and it helps just so much- my friend who plays the trombone says it worked like heaven for her too

You call that not bad!! blink.gif I'd go mad if I couldn' play properly for a month, and probably get really depressed!!!

So glad I decided not to get any....... (I may regret it in 20 years time, but I doubt it.)

When i have my braces tightened, i drink hot chocolate, because the heat makes the metal expand, so it is not as tight!

biggrin.gif Wish i had teeth like that!
