Full Version: How Well Does Your Lifestyle Support Your Music?
Forums > ABRSM > General Music Forum

Hi,

Was just wondering how many of the people here are

1) Full-time into music
2) If you are married and have children, does it hinder/slow down/accelerate your progress in music?
3) Is your boyfriend/girlfriend/partner/husband/wife also into music? Does it make any difference to you?
4) And lastly, do you think music is your greatest passion?

Just ignore any question, incase you think it's personal.

My answers:

1) I have to work as a software engineer sad.gif Hope I would be full - time sometime soon...may be in 10 years or so.... laugh.gif

2) I am 24 and not married and I believe it helps me dedicate more time to music. I would try my best to get this advantage as long as possible...smile.gif

3) I believe it would be great to have a partner with passion in music. Probably only a few lucky ones have. I don't know what's ahead for me.... rolleyes.gif

4) Yes, music is my greatest passion smile.gif

Hi Sandesh,

In answer to your questions:

1) Sadly no sad.gif I work in admin, absolutely nothing to do with music. But I live in hope that one day I will!!

2) I am married and I don't think it hinders my progress at all - he nags me to practice if I'm being lazy and helps by testing my scales before an exam!

3) He doesn't play an instrument but he does like music but not anything classical. He laughs at me getting all obsessed with music stuff and calls me a nerd laugh.gif in an affectionate way of course rolleyes.gif

4) Well I'm certainly getting more and more obsessed by it so yes I think so!

Hello Sandesh.

I'm new to this too. smile.gif

My answers are
1) I am a physicist and my boyfriend is a mathematician
2) I live with my boyfriend
3) I'm learning the sax and he plays the bass guitar, so we don't play together, but he encourages me to practise, and I encourage him. I would say that being with him is an advantage to my music - although if we broke up i might find i was absorbing myself in music even more!!
4)I'm passionate about my music, but i wouldn't claim it was "my passion" because I have so many hobbies and a job and a partner. No time!

1) I still go to school, but I do lots of extra-curricular music activities (choirs, quartet, music theory etc.)
2) I'm obviously not married (and don't have children either) laugh.gif
3) can't answer that (see above) but my family isn't really into making music (I'm the only person who plays a classical instrument); they listen to lots of music, though
4) yes, music is my passion! I wish I could do it at uni but unfortunately I have absolutely no piano skills to speak of...maybe in my next life!

My anwers are.....

1) Professional violinist

2) Not married, but my boyfriend is also a professional musician (an oboist)

3) Yes, as per my answers above. Don't think a non-musician would put up with my wild and whacky life laugh.gif We're as nutty as each other which is probably what makes us both think we're the sane ones and it's everyone else that's mad laugh.gif laugh.gif

4) Absolutely!! Couldn't live without music in my life. Can't imagine I will ever retire from it completely, no matter how old I get. However, I've got a list of hobbies I pursue when I'm not 'on the fiddle'...

Hello,

I don't work at the moment, (my music shop closed due to lack of sales) so I have lots of time to study music

I am married with two children so finding time to practice when they are off school is a nightmare!!!!

I had two caesarean sections and another abdominal operation so practice is slow (I play the oboe!)

I would love to work back in the music industry and finish all my exams ~ music keeps me going and keeps me sane when I've got playstations, screaming kids, a and a scientist husband to deal with (I love them all dearly of course)!!!!!
