I would really like to sing a solo soprano song at a choral concert with which I am already involved, which not only fits in with the general baroque and Handel theme but also expresses my gratitude to my late father for giving me his musical gift. Something along the lines of Schubert's An Die Musik but by Handel would be wonderful. There is a vast repetoire by Handel with which I am less than familiar. Can anyone suggest something please?

Viking,

How about "O! had I Jubal's lyre" from "Joshua"?

Does it have to be Handel? If it can generally be any baroque, one quite nice soprano aria I sing from time to time is Purcell's "Hark! how all things with one sound rejoice" from The Fairy Queen. Would this be suitable?

Good luck

Jubal's lyre would be perfect, wouldn't it, "My humble strains but faintly show how much to heaven and thee I owe". Not too easy though - I did it for grade 8 I think.

Thanks for the suggestions. Handel would be best as the rest of the concert is Handel, but I'll look at the Purcell too.
