has anyone found any recordings of these pieces which are on the grade 7 list at present but are not included on the CD's as they are studies. I hope to do it as my study in November but would like to listen to a recording first. Any ideas?

I've got these pieces but not a recording. Have you tried searching on Amazon?
oboist
Some of his music is set on the Oboe syllabus too and it's lovely!

If you play the oboe CDs aren't produced (except for individual recordings by oboists of the major repertoire of course) so you have to go it alone. Sometimes helpful to hear another interpretation on CD but exploring by yourself can also be fun and challenging.

Hope you find what you want. smile.gif

Can you not get your teacher to play it for you?

Which ones are you looking at. I've attempted to play ages ago, number 1- on grade 7 syllabus

yep that's the one. great piece disgusting leaps though in the quavers. Not sure that my teacher is game to play it although he would if I persisted but it would take some practise not only to get al those quaver leaps right ending on a horrible top F but then to get the semi quavers at the bottom right as well. Can't think why I actually chose to play it there must be other easier pieces but now I have started I hate being beaten by a piece of music . How did you get on with it. Fun! rolleyes.gif
saxlover
I've not played it that much - I don't play clarinet much really!

I thought out of all the grade 7 studies that was one of the best ones.

I'm doing that one at the moment! It's the set study for NYO this year and I'm just finding it hard to keep it even more than anything, and keep it forte through those leaps without it sounding clumsy! Though I do like it, if I dont keel over at the end!!

Those first set of leaps aren't bad it's the second set that get me. Also I hate those semi's at the end I can't get them without having harmonic notes in as well don't think that will work though. Nice to hear someone else is working hard at it to would be really great to find a recording though! blink.gif

Sorry about the last post ! Phone rang and I pressed the wrong button!

What I meant to say is I did this piece for my Grade 7 in the spring (got 27 for this piece). All I can say is it takes loads and loads of practice. (nothing new there). I really enjoyed it and it was worth all the work. Found the last section really difficult as I am a mature student (over 40) and my fingers are not as good as younger players!

Keep working on it - it's a great piece. Haven't been brave enough to try any of the others in the book, they look very difficult.

Hope I can get a mark like that. Have to say though I really do like the piece but it annoys me when it doesn't sound like I want it to. In respect to your age it makes me feel better working at grade 7 and being over 30.

Hi,
Have you got to grips with this piece yet? Are you taking your Grade 7 this term? I'm doing Grade 5 Sax this term and Grade 8 clarinet in the spring ( or summer if I'm not ready).

I got the music for this out the other day and gave it a play - I love it!

Def getting their now. I do enjoy playing it it's just all different tempos in the music that get me. It starts slow but finishes fast. It has come together more since I had my clarinet re padded with the super pads as I get a better suction on the pads therefore not as many strange notes. Yep am entered for this time around Scary thought as it will 10 years since I did my Grade 6.
capriwidow
Well when you get your results I hope to hear that you beat my mark on this piece!!!!!

What date is your exam ? My Grade 5 Sax exam is 2nd December, that's a Friday at 4.45pm, not sure about the day/time, will the examiner be fed up by then and want to get home? Could mean less scales to do!!!

Hope the Bourgeois goes really well for you - let me know how you get on.

Haven't quite decided on my Grade 8 Clarinet pieces for next Spring - am working on a few things.

Best of luck in your exam, hope you do well, you should do, you sound as if you've put in loads of work.

Kind regards
Capriwidow
