Hello everybody
I'm a french girl, working on cornamusas tongue.gif
But I am in trouble: I was in the great V&A on the 15th August. It occured during a three days' journey in London, so I didn't have much time to see all what I wanted to see.
When I was at the V&A, I saw ancient cornamusas, near to recorders and cornetts, but unfortunatly, I couldn't write any information about them:

unsure.gif please, could any londoner go there for me and find the origin and the informations about these cornamusas? It is importznt for me, and You would really help me.

wink.gif thank you very much
bisous

Google turns up the following:

Cornamusa

The Italian term for bagpipe.
See [Eng.] Bagpipe, [Fr.] Cornemuse, [Ger.] Sackpfeife, [It.] Cornamusa, [Sp.] Gaita.

Is that anywhere near?

Names given to the bag-pipes were localised. European bag-pipes in the 17th century were known as, Bignou in Lower Brittany, Cornamusa in Italy, in Rome Tibia Utricularis and as Sackpfeiff in Germany. Other names appeared such as Tiva, Ciarmella, Samponia and Zampugna.

Yup she'll mean the Victoria and Albert Museum. Now just need someone in London to pop along and look at the bagpipes. Unfortunately I am about 180 miles away.

the V&A is round the corner from the RCM and across from the Natural History museum. If I had the money for a travel card Id go there to hunt this weird thing down....but am too broke. sad.gif

Bonjour ghizzolo, et bienvenue au Forums!

You could try writing to the V&A, they may be able to help you directly.

Au revoir.

qhuizzolo,

Try the V&A website. They will have an email address where you can send enquiries.

If that doesn't help, try my friend Frances Palmer, at the Royal Academy of Music. She's an absolute ace on rare musical instruments and just might have some info. Her email is: f.palmer@ram.ac.uk

hello everybody......
I see that I don't know all the dictionary words... a Cornamusa is (for me) a music instrument: you know, it is what the scottish men play in the street... I don't know how to explain... an ancient traditional and very famous instrument much played in "Bretagne" in France and in Scotland

and the V&A is the Victoria & Albert museum as you said, but I have tried to write to them, and phone them, but they sell informations and it is quite expensive :-(

We still need a volunteer to go to the V & A and check them out though!!
