Does anyone know how to get rid of hiccups? I have had them for 3 hours now and it's really getting painful. I have tried the holding the breath and drinking out of the wrong side of the glass trick, but they havn't worked. Any ideas?
Tess
Oh dear, you must feel terrible, 3 hours! Poor you. Used to swallow thick porridge or a large compressed ball of cooked boiled rice but it's a bit late now to be cooking.

If there's someone else there, get them to put their fingers in your ears while you take as much water as you can from a glass of cold water. It helped me the other day biggrin.gif

Take a mouthful of water, tip your head upside-down and swallow.

Ok. Thanks for your suggestions. At least one of them must work.

Put one finger in your ear, roll your head forward so it's upside down and then drink ice cold water.

Works everytime!

Run into a wall. (It does work, if it makes no difference run in to it harder)

Well I hope they've gone now.

But if they come back what you do is this, and you have to do it very carefully.

Take a teaspoonful of sugar, make sure it is absolutely level (of course of you are diabetic or anything DONT do this!). Hold the teaspoon level and get the vinegar bottle. Drop the vinegar onto the sugar a drop at a time until the sugar is all wet but not too much so it is swimming. Very important to get this absolutely right.

Then swallow the teaspoon of sugar and vinegar down in one go. Like taking a shot.

Longest Attack of Hiccups
Charles Osborne (1894–1991) of Anthon, Iowa, USA, started hiccupping in 1922 while attempting to weigh a hog before slaughtering it. He was unable to find a cure, and continued hiccupping until February 1990, a total of 68 year!
Osborne led a normal life in which he had two wives and fathered eight children. The only discomfort from his hiccuping, he claimed, was the constant risk of losing his false teeth!

During the first few decades, he hiccupped up to 40 times a minute, slowing to 20 a minute in later years. He finally stopped in 1990 – after an estimated 430 million spasms – and died the following year.

Now that's scary!!!!!!! ohmy.gif
