Hi
I was wanting to join the forum 'in my own right' rather than under my son's log in and then always identifying myself as his mum in my posts. dry.gif
but
as we just have the one email address for the family when I try to do that it comes up saying a member is already registered at that email and I can't proceed. mad.gif
Can we both not be members .. especially as, for those of you who read my post "really middle aged beginners" a month or so back I have taken the plunge ( after all your kind words and encouragement) and started learning piano myself laugh.gif

I think Viohazard and I quite inadvertantly used different email addresses when we subscribed.

One option is for you to use a webmail address instead of your home e-mail address. I use gmail more and more these days, because unlike many other webmail services, I can set it to forward to my home e-mail address, and I can change the forwarding address very easily. If you don't have a webail address you often use, and want a gmail invite, I'd be happy to send you one via Forum e-mail.

Also, your main e-mail provider probably allows you to register more than one user name, and very likely you can have 2 or 3 before any extra charge is made.

I registered with my Yahoo email. Thats free to anyone like msn hotmail is. Just go to either site and make yourself a new email account and use that. Won't take long and it's easy. biggrin.gif

Thanks - I'll do that. Will I need to do anything with that a/c afterwards or can it just lapse into oblivion?

You might want to clear it of spam periodically!

You'll receive emails telling you when a forums member sends you a personal message.

If you never use it, and especially if you never use it to post to a public forum, like a news group, it is unlikely that any spammer will get to know it. I have had a yahoo email address for about siz months now and have yet to get any spam on it. My regular one gets spam, but Mozilla Thunderbird has an automatic spam filter that sends most of it to a subfolder. I look at that from time to time, in case Thunderbird rejected something wrongly. After a delay that you can set (still the default 14 days at present) it deletes an item.

You should log in from time to time, otherwise after a long period of time it will delete the account. Usually about three months, if you want it back you have to pay some money.

You can usually set up your own email address using your current isp. An email address consists of a personal bit and a domain name. Suppose your domain name is musicmanNZ.wanadoo.com?

You could add accounts called, say, Alison@musicmanNZ.wanadoo.com, or Peter@musicmanNZ.wanadoo.com. Thi is how families set up their personal accounts from the same baisc addredd.
