My Mum has decided that it is time that the dining/music room is being decorated. Is it ok just to put the piano in the centre of the room whilst the room is being sanded (it will have a dust sheet on top). (moving the piano into another room is not an option unmfortunatly as we getting all new carpets downstairs,

The sticky keys have stopped sticking....

Thanks flutenadbassoon

PS will the piano need tuning afterwards?

If you plan to wallpaper, the humidity level in the room will rocket whilst the paste is drying - this may well cause your piano to detune. Moving it won't help either, so I'd guess it would be best if you got it retuned a few weeks after decorating once everthing has dried out; and, of course, if it sounds out of tune...

Thanks, Yap. The piano is due for a tune in october...

You are not alone in your pain! Shortly, I have to move a piano out of its place in my home 200 miles to another part of the country, up a flight of stairs as we are moving to a coachouse, then down the stairs once the garage is converted. And all of this while I am trying to get ready for my grade 8.

smile.gif Good luck for the grade 8....I am not that advanced yet on piano. I just play bits nad pieces here and there dependant on mood. (An easy arrangement of Phantom of the Opera- good stress buster rolleyes.gif )

If you could borrow a dehumidifier from someone then running that for a few weeks would probably help your piano enormously.

I've just been decorating my music room, and there are two pianos in there! I just covered them with dust sheets and kept the windows open as much as possible, and they seem fine even though they've been moved about a bit. They'll have to be moved out into our (rather narrow) hall tomorrow, ready for the new carpet to be laid, which will be a bit....er....tricky! After they've been moved back into the music room and had a couple of weeks to settle in I'll have them tuned - they are just about due for tuning anyway. But they really don't sound bad at all at the moment - luckily, as term begins next week!

Reading this thread made me think of the Music Hall song "When Father Papered The Parlour" which has this stanza;

"We can't find our piano, though it's broad and rather tall. We think that it's behind the paper Pa stuck to the wall."

Be careful won't you?

Cheers

The piano is currently in the centre of the room with a dust sheet over it.
