Hi

I've just been reading;
http://www.abrsm.org/resources/theseMusicExams.pdf

A very nice document written around the ABRSM exams, and contains a whole host of useful and informed comments. However, can anyone explain the table that denotes the minimum speeds for scales ?

For example :
Scales Broken chords / arpeeggios
Grade 1 Crotchet = 60 Crotchet = 46
Grade 2 Crotchet = 66 Crotchet = 63

etc

** Addition : See page 26 the above mentioned document **

Many thanks

Scales are taken to be written as quavers (they are in the scale manual) so if it says crotchet = 60 that means you put the meterenome on 60 and play two notes of your scale for every tick (i.e. get a crotchet worth of beats for every tick of the meterenome). You can, of course, if you wish double the meterenome speed and play one note per tick. When you get higher up the speeds change to so many minim beats per minute, in which case you play four (quaver) notes per tick.

Hope that makes sense smile.gif.
