Full Version: Piano Dreams/nightmares!

Hi,

I was wondering if any of you ever have dreams about your instrument.

I have had this dream where I sit at the piano and I open up the keyboard lid and all the keys are different sizes. Most of the keys are much smaller than normal, so much so that when I try to play one I can't because when I press it I press more than one at a time.

If I were to analyse this I would guess that I am suffering from a feeling of frustration wanting to be a good pianist but have not got there yet. Incidentally, although I have had this dream several times, I have not had it for a while which may mean I am improving.

Do you have goofy dreams?

Not an adult learner here, but I definitely have some weird dreams about my instruments! I've had the same one about three times now where I lose my cello right before a really important orchestra concert and they make me play bassoon instead! And then I really panic because I can't play bassoon and they think I'm really good so they give me a solo part which I then stuff up. So they say, "Well, you're not a proper musician are you?" and then they chuck me out. Probably some deep, subconcious insecurity surfacing here or something... Lol! tongue.gif

I sometimes dream that I can't find the page for the next hymn in time... I search and search and can't find it!
StuMac
Have had the odd nightmare about playing three weeks today!

I often have musical dreams, when I get music in a certain style playing through my head. Somtimes they are pieces I know, but played differently. "To a wild rose" with a real classical style albertti base accompanyment, and jazz arrengements of chopin Mzurkas are two that I can remember!!

Just wish I could write tyem down before I forget them!!

I find it very bizarre yet fascinating how your brain can compose soundtracks to your dreams, sometimes very original pieces of music too. Like Stumac said, the problem is actually remembering them when you wake up.

I hadn't dreamt about music at all (except for dreams where I'm arguing with my piano teacher dry.gif ) until I read this thread....then last night I dreamed I was in a large church full of people and playing piano for the hymns (aaargh!!!) - the congregation sang very well & I muddled along and it wasn't until after three hymns that I realised I didn't have any music and had been playing by ear...when it came to hymn number four I was really confused because I didn't know it...then I spotted an organist over the other side and he played it on the organ.....anyway, I wasn't nervous in my dream, so I hope that's a good omen for the future... wink.gif

Piano is not my instrument but I love listening to it.

Recently, I had a wonderful dream. I dreamt that it was a glorious day in weather terms and I saw myself entering my daughter's music teacher's sunny sitting room where his old piano is supposed to be. She was following me close behind. Anyway, when I walked in, the old piano was gone and in the middle of that room there was this beautiful baby grand piano! Absolutely beautiful! When I laid eyes upon it, I felt an overwhelming joy that seemed to filled me and overflow from within me. I was SO unbelievably happy ... and then I woke up!

The old out-of-tune piano is still there now. Strangely, on that very same day just before we arrive for lesson, he was looking on the internet at pianos for sale. How weird. ph34r.gif

Keep us posted on whether he buys what you dreamt about, Tess.

I think most string players have nightmares about their instruments being nicked.

The exception might be bass players, for obvious reasons... laugh.gif

Oh Suepea, I've just asked him - If you can afford it, why not? He smiled sweetly and said - Oh, he mustn't be tempted! He needs the money for another project. Shame. No grand piano dream come true. Was taken by surprise though as I had always thought music teachers were rather poor! Maybe he'll be tempted to change his mind if he wins the lottery or something! laugh.gif
